Redders press conference

Another impressive performance.

References : paraphrased;

Players here who have more than they have shown.

The club found itself in a different division than before...

I've got a different mindset than (Steve evans).

I've got to open their minds

The players hopefully will respond to that.

The higher you get the harder it gets.

The clues are coming are they not. Almost certainly SE was pushed from this and little bits from TS and Redders since.

One thing Redfern is not is soft. I think he would be no nonsense in many dimensions. Looks like Halford might be a target for Redders new mindset.

Ian - in what way do you think Halford would be a target. Are you suggesting that NR won't put up with his lazy arrogance? Or do you think he might be able to motivate him?

with the new mindset will come a whole raft of changes

for a start the reserves wont be just the fringe players but the youth as well get them blooded faster and then take stock

yates will be on the bench soon.

halford this is a work in progress. the comment halford made could have been directed at evans meaning halford had been used as a scapegoat but there is the rumour black doesnt rate his work ethic

i do think the precious mindset has affected the players luckily the new mindset can open the closed doors

i think we will playing wider than we did with evans and i wouldnt be surprised to aidy white on the wing in a 4 4 2 formation
up front no more derbyshire up front on his own.

just the right wing maguire not a winger ward not a winger maybe a role yates could fill i dont know

Pretty much agree with hillsbrough miller.

I think Redders initial inclination will be to open the mind of halford to his potential

Interesting change in focus. Jerry Yates for example has real ability and is a natural finisher, but what chance would he have had with Evans? A bit part pre-season out of position on the wing and a debut in what amounted to a friendly at Leeds last game of the season has been the limit so far. He is a month away from being 19. He isn't a kid. Not to have a go at Matt Derbyshire but he scores a goal every four or five games. Would Yates do any worse? Evans would go for tried and tested every time (the only excepion bizzarrely being Roos). He would have picked Halford up front ahead of Yates. Redfearn will give young and talented a chance.

I really hope Redfearn does give some youngsters a chance to show what they can do.
Tom Thorpe didn't get much opportunity under SE but he obviously has talent and Redders is the ideal man to nurture it. I honestly think we may have a gem of a player here.
Surely Jerry Yates is worth a place in the squad as he could be a game changer coming off the bench. Perhaps he needs to work on his upper body strength but he's a real prospect I think.
As for Halford, I'd like to see him go. He doesn't seem to want to be here and his tweets (later deleted) were ill - advised and widened the gulf with supporters even further. I'm sure Eric Black will have filled Redders in with the details!

I think there are good times ahead for the youth set up and the club. If the kids can see a direct route to the first team and know hard work and progression will be noticed and rewarded, what a great motivator it should be for them to kick-on.

I slightly disagree regarding Halford, I still think there is a good player in there who may respond totally different to a change in the management set up and style? At Brighton when he came on up front, I thought he was actually trying too hard to make something happen as we were chasing the game with only a few remaining minutes on the clock. This was perceived by some as being clumsy and giving needless fouls away but, I thought different. We will see if there has been a noticeable change in his attitude and performance in the next few games, I hope so, If not.............then I will agree with you mellow.

Archie I think we'll know pretty quickly whether Mr Redfearn is prepared to give Halford another chance simply by whether he's in the squad or not on Saturday.
I understand your point about how he may respond to a different style of management and you could well be right.
I just find it disappointing that a supposedly senior player spits his dummy out and has a tantrum on social media just because he was deemed not worthy of a place in the squad for the last game.
That kind of attitude can cause friction in the dressing room and we don't need that, we need a squad that is united and all pulling in the same direction.
I would be inclined to move him out but if he gets selected and plays well then I'll hold my hands up and admit I was wrong. UTM.

Either way mellow it will be a win/win situation. If his attitude is wrong and is bombed out, as you say, the squad will benefit. If he does play and does well, a win for all involved.

I hear that Redders has said Halford will be given another chance despite his outburst on Twitter.
Fair enough, show us what you've got Mr Halford or go back to selling bikes!

Could it be that the biggest problem Mr. Halford has is that no-one knows his best position so (or he is too talented to have one).He therefore gets played all over the pitch and never really settles into one specific spot.confuse

Well if you look at his Twitter page for his company white collar management , his car is shown, an Audi R8 with a Reg of  G17 EGO, this says it all.

It's hardly been the most auspicious of starts with the Miller's for Halford. Brought in by Evans as his marquee signing and given the captaincy, only to have it taken away from him just a few short weeks later. Played in three different positions if you include pre-season and sub appearances and not particularly shining in any of them.
Evans leaves and Black does not deem him good enough to be included in the match day squad. Shows his immaturity by his posts on Twitter which hardly endeared him to Black or the fans.
On a more positive note a previously good player does not suddenly become a bad player overnight. Time to show some respect Greg to the club and the fans and show us what you are capable of. You have a perfect springboard to do this. A clean slate and a new manager who intends to give everyone at the club a chance to prove what they can do. Grasp the opportunity, you know it makes sense.

Halford is a centre back, not a right back, not in midfield, up front. Problem is including Wood there's 5 better players than him for 2 positions. Surprised if he's in the match day squad tomorrow. But I'm not convinced by Collins, slow in movement & reactions. Rawson & Broadfoot to start tomorrow, Broadfoot needs games to get match fit. Thorpe either in midfield or 1st change on the bench.

I have high expectations for Thorpe.

I love his style but I am uncertain whether we can find a place for him.

Not sure if he is good enough-only time will tell-but he looks more than capable to me.

I guess I have some doubts about his battling qualities. We still need that dont we?

I know top sides work rate is high but does he have the work rate we need given out skill level?
