Andy Monium's pubs

Andy, forgive me starting a new thread but I can't find the old one.  There are two Frog and Firkins in West london, the Ladbroke Grove one and my old haunt on Tavistock Crescent next door to the WP tube station.  As to my war injuries you will appreciate that I'm not free to give details.  I was at the time a member of the elite Special Artillery Projectile Squad (SAPS) tasked by the then government with finding a cheaper alternative to Trident for delivering nuclear warheads.  The attached photo shows me preparing for launch.

This system scored highly on cost but had the disadvantage of having to be located within a few hundred yards of the target, with potentially unfortunate consequences for the crew.  In an effort to increase range I over-tightened the ropes which snapped.  It took surgeons several days to free me by which time all hopes of a lucrative sporting career had ended.

I hope this clears everything up.

ridgeway, think the old Frog & Firkin got demolished around 5/6 years ago, that's if it`s the same one.

Did Punch Taverns get their hands on it at sometime ?

Tiger, that's it.  I was drinking there (and living at 22 Tavistock Crescent) in the late 1980s/early 1990s.  Had no idea it had changed name and now demolished you say!  I remember it was staffed by Australians and had a micro-brewery in the cellar.  What a shame.  I wonder if The Blenheim and Duke of Wellington (Finches) and Sun in Splendour are still going?

ridgeway, here is the Sun in Splendour in all its glory. The Duke of Wellington (finches)

was open a couple of years ago when a relative visited.

Not sure which Blenheim you mean, St Johns Wood or another one perhaps. Got to go getting ready to visit Brummy land.01.jpg

Tiger, thanks for those pictures which bring back some great memories.  The Blenheim seems to have disappeared without trace.  I will investigate; would help if I could remember the name of the street!

Well, I found the street; it's Blenheim Crescent, W11, just off the Portobello Road.  Can't find out about the pub yet though.

The Blenheim?  Cale st.

Plenty of decent pubs left in London, even central. Not bad prices if you care to search around.

Tiger, a different Blenheim.  Mine is now the E&O Restaurant, Blenheim Crescent, W11.

Tiger, sorry mate; hadn't spotted that you'd found it when I posted.  Cheers.

I'll bet it was no joke getting your neck trapped like that.

But I'm still wondering why you were unable to pursue a career in sport.

The man in the photo below had a similar experience as yours.

However, when he played football he was always first to head the ball.
