Can this be true?

It just occurred to me that I can never remember seeing us beat Birmingham City.  My earliest recollection is of a 0:0 FA Cup game at Millmoor in 1967 and though details are hazy I seemed to remember Trevor Hockey, sporting a white sweat band on his head played quite well - in a dirty sort of way.  I am aware of a victory in L3 in 1989 which took place in October and there is no obvious reason why I would have missed it but I can't remember it at all and I surely would as it was 5:1 to the Millers.  One win in almost 50 years seems poor although of course we may not have played them all that often.  Time for revenge on Saturday but I don't feel at all confident.

Apologies, W.  I had read your post earlier and therefore missed the last relevant entry.

Rabbit, see how fast they went down the wing - even a 2 man interchange and goal line cross, inside 18yds !!!

Left em standing

That game in 67 seem to remember Hockey and Les Chappel kicking lumps off each other for 90mins then walking off arms round each other shoulders laughing, strange how some teams have the mark over teams .

That 1989/90 team played some good football and was a decent side. I missed the 5-1 Birmingham win for some reason but a cousin got me a video of it from the club shop as a Christmas or birthday present and I still have it. Strange game. 1-1 after an even first half then we ripped them to shreds at times second half. Bobby Williamson in my opinion is one of the top three or four strikers we've seen at RUFC over the years. His movement off the ball was class and he could finish.

Me too Heman.  I also vividly remember jumping around with my dad and cousins on a packed away terrace at Gresty Road as we stuffed Crewe 3-1 over Easter 1989 in a top of the table decider.  A Williamson second half hat-trick I think although nostalgia might be getting the better of me.  Happy days!

Stockport away in the sunshine where he curled it round the goalie from near the corner flag. The bend was amazing

Ha, Heman, your mention of Stockport revives another bitter-sweet memory of Millmoor.  Div. 3, January 1969 we beat County 4:1.  I remember they were wearing a fetching strip of blue, white and fiery orange.  Why bitter-sweet?  Because for reasons that now escape me I was late to the game to find us already leading 3:0 early in the first half.

Oh for another goal scorer like Hot Shot Bobby. We would have enjoyed his goal scoring for a little longer if manager Billy McEwan had not had a fallen out with him. I remember going in to the Tivoli for a pint before a game and who should come up to the bar but Bobby Williamson. On enquiring why he was not playing that day,
Back came the reply, I'm injured. I then asked him what the problem was. Quick as a flash back came the answer
it's my face, it doesn't fit. Shortly after that he was transferred to Kilmarnock. Pity we didn't keep him for a bit longer, but what memories he left us with.

I know no one else is interested and I have a lonely passion for historic football kits but here for completeness is the very Stockport 1969 kit I saw them play in against us at Millmoor.
