Refreshingly positive from the off today. Lots of energy, a solid looking back four with Collins looking very competent. Midfield showing patience in the build up and some good creativity from Newell and Quo Vadis who was superb. JCH was a constant headache for the Cardiff defence and Andreu looked useful. Derbyshire is still off his game in both his distribution and his finishing but his work rate is admirable.
A deserved victory with either 11 or 10 men in opposition. Cardiff looked nothing like a top two side.
Steve Evans gave a very balanced interview on Radio Sheff but then couldn't help himself calling those who had doubted him over the past few weeks 'numpties' - immature at best.
Today we saw players in their correct positions playing with an energy and passion, and creating through midfield rather than aimlessly over the top. We also saw SE smartly turned out and consigned mainly to the dugout. There was very little touchline interference. These points have been the focus of considered comment from concerned fans over the past few weeks and it would appear the SE has taken heed. He won't admit that of course - after all, who would take any advice from a bunch of numpties?!
So come on Steve. Understand that people whose passion for RUFC surpasses any short term managerial contract have the right to comment if they feel that things are not as they should be. And frankly, things have not been quite right until, hopefully, today. Rise above childish retribution on the radio and prove yourself, as you have done so impressively, by putting out a side who play the Rotherham way. That way you will have 100% support.
got up to listen to this and this is what I heard, we were positive and dominated then the pen. Yes we won but it has to be noted that we got a pen and a sending off in odd cir***stances, we then got a last gasp winner with an own goal. These things will not happen often we have to finish our chances. Also how comes Steve realises the players true positions now? Surely he needs to know this from the off? Not having a go and I am delighted we got the points, but Steve is beginning to worry me.
I saw it .nowt to worry about.
10 men yes but they were all camped in their half.
It was a good showing today.
Anyone thinking otherwise will moan about owt. On my phone so apologies for typos
Agree with that, though some fans really need their heads looking at, moan at owt, with no real constructive arguments one way or the other. I fully understand the frustration, but some of the crap coming out of millers fans(?) gobs n that second half today was ridiculous.
I thought first half we were excellent and showed real attacking intent. Both Ofoe and Clarke Harris were staring and it looked likely we would be the ones to score. I don't recall Cardiff having a single shot on target. Then the incident with Derbyshire, the keepers reaction was a red card but not sure it was a penalty - very curious. Then with 30 seconds of additional time to go he evens it up by giving them a soft pen when their diver in chief, Fabio, theatrically went down in the box after Rawson put his hand on him. Don't do it because he was getting nowhere near the ball anyway!!
Second half they parked the bus hoping to hang on to their point and maybe nick a winner on the break. They slowed it down, extended every goal kick, throw in, free kick and it made for a very frustrating 45 mins. We passed it around nicely enough and kept the ball for long periods. But we lacked the change in pace that would open them up, we lacked the guile to get in behind them and we lacked the confidence to at least get shots away from the edge of the box when the space opened up - which is either down to lack of confidence or lack of quality in the side - jury is out.
But just as it was looking like we would have to settle for a very frustrating point, up pops Maguire and does what we should have been doing for most of the half, putting low hard crosses into the box and bingo! It ricochets off somebody and ends up in the net. And what justice that the paltry 3 minutes added was just long enough for us to win it and no time for Cardiff to do anything about.

Thats about as accurate and succinct as it gets.
yeah, not sure about the rules re the pen. Derbyshire pulled him , but not really a foul in my opinion-its the kind of thing you see week in and week out with play allowed to continue-but with the ball in his hands the goalis kicks Derbyshire.
Cardiff fans think it should have been a free kick to them but firstly I didnt think it merited it, but I can see how some would say otherwise, and the ref didnt see it (he only just turned in time to see the kick). so, whats the actual rule re a ball in the goalies hands (technically in play I guess) and a foul committed by said keeper. Not sure Ive ever see this before.
For example, if Derbyshire and the goalie have a fight and both get sent off what happens then?
If the ref gives the first foul its obviously not going to be a pen.
Not been a critic of Evans but I will say he can dish it out but can't take it.
Football is like catchphrase ... Say what you see.
He lacks judgement. His attempt to associate himself with TS as both subject of fans' unjustified anger is transparent. Calling fans "numpties" is in my view unforgiveable whatever the provocation.
Derbyshire should have been yellowed for unsporting conduct, the ball is in the GKs control, not 'live'. There is no need for Derbyshire to do that. Marshall with his exp should know better, but his reaction is the same, yellow for unsporting behaviour, its not dangerous just handbags but under duress. The red and penalty is probably the most crazy decision we'll likely see in our favour all season.
Yes it looked much better but we need to be more ruthless in front of goal, we won from a penalty and own goal, Cardiff will and should feel very hard done by. For us a welcome 3 points, but fortune played a big part.
As we know home will be where we earn the right to stay in this league. 1 down 14 more wins to go!
As for calling fans numpties, totally disgraceful, can't have done anything else to further damage his rapidly evaporating respect from the millers faithful. When we go back to form it won't be long before the knives are truly out
The thing is though he's right isn't he? about those numpties, know nothing about the game, expect us to play like Real Madrid every game, and boo at any opportunity, idiots that i wouldn't call fans to be honest.
