Rooney vs Switzerland

Every time he touches the ball we lose it. How he has achieved so many caps and scored so many goals I will never understand.

Overrated and overpaid, smiler.

That's just my opinion of course.

According to some newspapers he even helps Louis Van Gaal pick the Manchester United team.

Just got the scoring record. Tonight has been a microcosm of his career Andy. He's been awful but he will get the headlines. Not his fault.  To be fair he spoke well after the game.

This is a bit of a ps. Wayne Rooney is obviously very good at football. I get frustrated not with Wayne Rooney but with people who describe him as 'world class' or 'the best England striker ever'. He always makes himself available for club and country and I am sure he always gives his best. He is a bit like Gazza in that whatever else he clearly loves playing football. There are spells however when confidence seems to drain from him and he looks like he has not mastered the basics. He is not in my opinion world class but he has just scored his 50th goal for England and he is the only person ever to have done that, which by any measure is something that deserves special recognition (albeit not the hyperbole that commentator on ITV was spouting). I feel better now.

I had actually forgotten this match was taking place.  Heard the "crucial moment" from Radio 5 Live's coverage on the Today programme this morning.  The commentator was in danger of having a stroke.  He literally screamed "Wayne Rooney" four times in 20 seconds, recounted his "brilliant strike into the roof of the net" etc, etc.  Absolute tripe: a mediocre troll who will fizzle out yet again ain the Euros along with his overpaid campadres.
