just catching up not there today a 6 pointer this early in the season oh dear, Pringle was a cert to score
dont know whats happening but a the center half position we have been dire said it before Halford just aint got it Collins ???
no way are we going to score 3 to win it imo, this will for sure drop heads if we dont win today.a long season a head
no more excuses the buck stops with the signings Mr E. Has brought in
We can't compete, simple as that. Add in "journeyman" players such as Richardson, Green, Halford, Collins etc who are just after one last payday & absolutely no youth policy, a manager & coaching staff that are so inept it's incredible, it all adds up to inevitable relegation & quite possibly humiliation.
I said in a previous post that we'll get less points than Blackpool's 26 last season & I stand by that.
Money does talk unfortunately & it's my hope that some of the clubs that have horrendously overspent & that includes our last two league opponents, QPR & Fulham, eventually go t**s up, because the one thing the Championship isn't & that's a level playing field.
I warmly applaud TS's decision not to break our wage structure to try & stay in the second tier & if it's a choice of staying up or having a financially secure football club, I'd take the latter every time, in fact in some ways It'll be a relief to play in a division that pits us against teams with a similar financial footing.
Saying that however, things need to change on the field. SE or possibly Tony brought in Eric Black to help with the coaching & tactical side of the game & that doesn't seem to have worked, to put it mildly. Halford said this week in the 'tiser that there's no plan B, doesn't he think that he himself might be a massive part of the problem? He & Collins, along with Clanger Roos have been absolutely dreadful in the five games so far, & that absolutely HAS to be Evans fault, sorry SE lovers.
Jerry Yates is talked about in glowing terms, as was Nicky Walker some time ago but no doubt he'll end up in lower or non-league football as happened to Walker, Rowe, & Rose.
In short, roll on May when we can actually compete, even if it is in L1, & hopefully have a proper football manager in situ instead of the excuse for one we currently have!!!
Would agree with you mostly Brad, but why then do we bother? If we know we cant compete in the Championship due to the wage structure, why bother competing in L1 to get promotion in the first instance. If we're happy to be in L1 should the squad /manager of the day compete just in case we get promoted again. I'm fed up with the 'roller coaster ride' we get with this club. I'd like to see some stability and forward thinking, forward planning including a decent youth policy.
The answer must lay with TS who has remained pretty quiet thus far. He and the other directors have to decide what they want for the club and invest and promote the club as vigorously as possible so that we can compete, or remain as Li'l ol' 3rd division Rotherham
While ever we are in this promotion, relegation, promotion, relegation situation we are never going to attract the supporters in the numbers we need nor are we going to be able to attract the type of corporate sponsorship or any other type of cash flow to sustain a football club at a reasonable level. Someone has to decide.
We bother because the club is in our blood. If & when we are promoted back to the Championship we may have a settled team AND a decent manager who gives said team a chance in the higher league (like Brentford) & not discard them like SE!!
Also, hopefully the G&C situation is sorted giving Tony more scope to grow the club financially (Hotel? Retail etc)
cant compete is a fair comment based on the cash but I cant agree with the conclusion.
I agree its far from level and not even fair given most clubs will carry enormous debt and just write it off.
The solution is not to give up the ghost and get relegated.
Clearly TS and the board have done a great job and our year on year revenues have improved and indeed we are doing better than a few clubs but its not just down to that, its down to the pure cash in the back pocket that other clubs owners have and some incredible loyalty-Something Rotherham have never had. All we have had is a bit of a shafting after success built on sand in the guise of 2 previous owners who were crooks (Johnston) and not loyal enough and generous enough-pulling the plug when we needed him most (Booth).
God knows why Ive bothered to drag that up.
Anyway, as frustrated as I am, there is no easy answer. At least SE seems to have finally decided that the center half pairing is totally useless. If they could just head a ball it might help incredibly by allowing the midfield to actually occupy the middle of the park instead of the Grand Canyon they have to traverse all game to retrieve and support the attack. They really are awful-I cant be bothered to describe how awful they have been-I would just like to scoop em up in a tractor and watch them dropped in the path of a huge combine harvester and then fed to pigs. My only worry would be that they would end up in the food chain and somehow Id still end up watching that **** as I flushed it down the loo.

I don't disagree Brad. I know what you mean, and your right, that IS why we bother, thats why I've been bothered for 55 years, and it is a bother supporting a club like ours.
I was just posing a bit of a rhetorical question as to why bring the club this far knowing it is not sustainable. It makes the club appear as a ten bob outfit, humiliating for the fans, and renders the club, as an entity, a joke, complete with Cocoa the Clown. Not a good idea if we are looking to promote the club as a business to outside sponsors
The Directors need to make a decision, find further investment and patch up what we have to maintain and build on our position or let it go back to square one. Do we really want to start again with a fan base dwindling to 4000 in a 12000 stadium because that wont be sustainable either. A rock and a hard place, and some tough choices.
We looked shaky today in the first half every time Fulham came at us. The centre backs didn't look sound. Just saw the highlights on TV. Collins loses his man for the first goal then waves his arms around at everyone else before Pringles shot even hits the net. Halford dives in horrendously to give the pen away. These two were presumably picked over Thorpe / Rawson for their experience and leadership qualities but they showed little of either. We can't give Championship sides a two goal lead. If that is how the old pros are going to play then frankly I would rather see the young kids given a chance.
