1. GOALKEEPER - we do not have a championship goalkeeper at the club. Roo's has promise, thats why he is signed to Derby but on loan to us, Derby dont want to take the risk hence his loan. Colin despite a half decent show against Norwich is not a Championship keeper hence his replacement by Martinez end of last year - put a bid in for Jussi Jääskeläinen now
2. UP FRONT - Much as I like Matt Derbyshire he has not nor ever will be a prolific goal scorer. Lets face it in Lge 2 and 1 up to our promotion to the championship our strike force was Alex Revell + A N Other. This scenario is commng round again, Matt will play with whichever "striker" SE deems puts in the work in training.
3. TACTICS - Our current management team have a fascination with playing players out of position, Bowery on the left, JCH as the provider to MD and most recently (and to me the biggest mistake) Richardson at LB (no where near the game against NCFC). The long ball ?? MD is never gonna win balls against Champioship defenders. JB is never a left winger or header of the ball. But our touchline staff stick with the plan and cant, or wont, change it for the better ( BTW the back 4 held a beautiful line against Norwich but left players wide with far far to much space)
4. MIDFIELD - We have at the club some nice talent in this department but they have to be let their head an played in a position they are comfortable with (see TACTICS ). I still cannot see the value of bringing on Green at 3-1 down to MK Dons. Play to our strenghts, football though Grant Ward, Newell, Wight etc. Most of em must still have a stilff neck from watchin the ball sail over their heads last night.
Bottom line is this we are conceding far to many goals, we are not converting any where near the number of chances at goal we are being presented (not BTW creating).
Only my opinion, Im not employed as a football manager, just a passionate paying fan
Much of what you've put is your opinion, of course, and people will have different opinions, regardless of what Derbymiller says!! haha, my take on it;
Goalkeepers = We cannot afford to pay top dollar for players.
Defence = see above
Midfield = see above
Strikers = see above
If SE can get the players to gel, who knows what might happen, and you know what, regardless of what anyone thinks about his tactics or scoutng abilities, motivation is definitely one of his strengths.
I for one will continue to believe in the team, particularly this early in the season.
rather premature to draw a conclusion about our fate.
Sure, we don't have a championship keeper but the rest is about interpretation. Tactically I don't see any evidence he has underperformed. We got promoted twice and stayed in the championship. The latter 2 were against the bookies and Many an opinion.
