...with any sport where judges decide the result. Watched the Euro boxing in Bulgaria and a British lad with the low profile name of Muhamed Ali battered a Bulgarian who was nevertheless awarded the bout by all the judges. It's as bent as the Eurovision Song Contest.
I used to be a big boxing fan, back in the day. I remember staying up to listen to the title fights broadcast live from Madison Sq Garden on the wireless with my old dad before satellites made live trans Atlantic television possible. The old man was constantly having to re tune as the reception wavered back and forth, a Capstan Full strength sticking out of his mush, the only other sound apart from his racking cough was the hum and buzz from the orange illuminated valves in the wireless and the rattle of the night shift riveters at Robert Jenkins.
Then came Don King and Sky and that was the end of that!

Beginning to sound like Mr Godfrey from Dads Army
Yes, I posted recently on the malign influence of Don King. Must say I love your posts as each one is a nostalgia trip for a forgotten brand of fag. Keep up the good work - you're never alone with a Strand!
Sickly, I was recommended the 4 volume history The Hundred Years War by Sumption. Each volume is around 900 pages! Trouble is while vols 1, 3 and 4 are widely available at reasonable prices vol.2 is hard to find and I've seen it at £500-£1000 for the hardback. So if you spot a copy at £20 or less (hard or paperback) let me know asap.
