Not seen anything so far that would warrant the pre season optimism. Individually some players are promising but as a unit .... lets say it dont foster confidence. Cambridge put one away last night, ok it was offside, the point is they were able to get into a scoring position in the first instance. Having said that, only two games in, plenty to play for..........

I am only surprised that there was so much pre-season optimism.  We were the bookies favourites for relegation at 9/4 and this had shortened to 6/4 by the start, largely because of the dismantling of the defence.  I have said it time and again and will continue to say it; you cannot build a successful team at this level on peanuts and a revolving door transfer policy. End of story.  If you try you might survive a season or two but then it's back down.  Despite the views of some Millers other Championship clubs are not owned and managed by idiots.  They are spending money because they know they have to.

If that is the case then we need to accept that we are at our peak. You can't expect TS to bankrupt himself.

Well I think that could be a little bleak Ex, certainly nothing more than top half, though I will be happy with fourth from bottom.

Sickly makes a valid point.  The problem with football is related to that old problem in business: that people are promoted to one level beyond their abilities.  In football the fans want success and get used to the trappings of that success in terms of promotions, wins and goals.  Then you inevitably reach a level where success is survival and the trappings dry up.  So we survive 4th bottom in the Championship for 3-5 seasons and realistically that is "greater success" than getting there in the first place.  But it is success that unlike the promotion seasons comes with few wins, few goals and probably unattractive styles of play.  Inevitably crowds fall away.  There is no answer to the conundrum.

People are pressing the panic button far too early.

Both full backs need to get fit and playing..has been a major defensive weakness...they will return.

Completely new defence who need to get to know each other and learn to play together as a unit.

We need a settled front two so someone can learn how to pick Derbyshire out.

All this takes time.

I have seen it all before, good players but a poor start to the season as the team aspect develops.

As fans we need to remain patient and support the team and it's manager.

It's not a question of panic.  In fact it's the opposite.  Logic indicates that relegation is almost inevitable in the near term.

Every one has a view, depending on if their glass is half full or half empty. However, I think it is far too early to come to any conclusion about this season from the two matches we have played. Yes we shipped 4 against the Franchise, but on another day we might well have won that game, a few missed opportunities here and a few mistakes there changed the match in their favour.

We are too expectant of success from day 1, immediately proclaiming who will start the season from a good display in pre season games, (Grant Ward), but then jumping on his back when he doesn't produce the goods in the league match. Grant is no doubt finding going up a level or two difficult (remember Frecks and Pringle starting poorly last season?), but if he is a good player he will no doubt adjust and improve his game. Similarly, all our new players need to adjust to each other and work on getting to know each other's strengths and weaknesses. Let's give them a few games to start bedding in before we decide where we are going to end up in the league come May.

By the way, even if my glass is half empty, I am always ready to refill it.

Its alright saying give players time to gel & know out 1st choice full backs have been missing. But lose sat' then we're playing catch up. Tues game Centre back pairing didn't work, if its not working against Cambridge defo' won't work against Forrest. Should have brought Thorpe on at half time for Collins. Hope Rawson is fit soon.

Of course kempo and andy are right in pointing out its early doors and unifier suggesting fans bought the hype.

Thing is it was a god awful display. It was so bad it was like the most heinous crime committed by a once loved darling of British saturday tea time entertainment.

I only hope SE leaves no stone unturned and outs the culprits so we can restore our reputation of a team that plays and supports one another on the pitch.
