This site, while showing promise, will only be able to hold its head fully erect when it recruits its very own cadre of stalkers and sleepers. These types of poster are sometimes confused with each other but they are in reality quite different. The most obvious distinction and the easiest way to spot them is that stalkers relate to people and sleepers relate to topics. There are examples of both on other football forums but so far I have failed to spot any on Banter.
The first group disappear for prolonged periods but surface immediately on detecting a post by a particular poster. The subject matter of the post is of no relevance but invariably attracts some slagging response which leads to a long tit-for-tat exchange until, exhausted, one or both participants sign off, sometimes but not always after asking that the other party be banned.
The second group, of which there are 4 well known members on another Millers site, lay low for weeks or months ignoring such boring (to them) topics as football or RUFC. Then, on spotting a keyword they emerge in force haranguing all fellow posters not in the clique as racist Neanderthals. The best bait to attract this lurker is "Muslim" but "Immigration" or "Asylum seekers" can work equally well.
Don't worry we're fully aware of it, and as a community it will be everybody's responsibility to stamp it out. 8 months we've been going and I don't recall having to contact anyone yet about what they type, but I'm not foolish enough to think that won't last forever (would be nice though)

Good post, ridgeway.
Current topics to draw out the lurker are Operation Stack, Calais, Dover, sniffer dogs and a former Tory Prime Minister.
Anyway, it's like lighting the blue touch paper on a catherine wheel and watching it spin into a frenzy.
PS (Sniffer dogs? What on earth can sniffer dogs do to solve problems?)
