Solway locations

Having retired I intend to start the "Good Life" and am looking for a place on either side of the Solway Firth.  A minimum of 5 acres and sea views are essential.  Does anyone know the area and any likely spots?

Brid and Cleethorpes were favoured holiday destinations of my youth.  I know Kempo speaks highly of Skegness.  However, it's all about property and land prices and you can get a lot more bang for your bucks in Dumfreisshire and most locals even speak English.

With £ being so strong against the € at the moment maybe now is the time to look at investing in a property in rural France or even further afield.

My sister moved to Carcassonne 10 years ago and although she loves France and speaks the lingo fluently she has just sold up and moved to Spain.  She said the local property taxes were crippling and building work cost a fortune.  She was paying the same for scaffolding on a daily rate as it cost me here to hire it for 6 weeks.

Solway Firth is a lovely area to retire to.

I`ve only been once on holiday and that was quite some time ago.

The properties up there can be expensive.

You would be as well to put "Properties for Sale Solway Firth" in your search engine and see what it brings up.

By expensive for 5 acres of land you could pay up to £500,000.

Good luck with your search and Happy retirement.

Let us know how you got on.

Will do.  I'm leaning more to the Scottish side which seems more reasonably priced.  I have found a very nice detached place with 8 acres and overlooking the beach.  The only drawback is that it has oil-fired underfloor heating.

Don't see a problem with oil-fired heating, you would need to do the sums and if there is decent access for a small tanker lorry then buy in bulk. A lot of the access roads can be a bit narrow.

You could always move in and then later look for an alternative source of heating.

Almost forgot it can get breezy up there especially if you're facing the sea.

I love Scotland, I like Benidorm also. lol  biggrin

Got to go, I have an important match to get to.
