Greenock Morton 0-3 Rotherham United At Cappielow Park Attendance - 548
Rotherham United`s first game of the Scottish Trip ending in a resounding three-nil win over Greenock Morton at Cappielow Park.
A good tackle on midfielder Lee Frecklington stopped him in his tracks as he was about to break forward in the opening minutes of the game which was followed by a good ball from defender Danny Collins to Matt Derbyshire which the Rotherham forward was a bit over confident with and mis-kicked. But a goal did come on twelve minutes when Derbyshire did well to pick up the ball and got a superb ball into Greg Halford who side-footed the ball into the net. A few minutes later former Miller Michael Tidser almost equalised and only some good reaction from Kelle Roos in the Milers goal saw the ball tipped behind with Roos having to be alert and hold on to a shot from Peter MacDonald. When it was looking like Morton would force a goal the Millers doubled their lead and Halford saw his initial shot stopped Frecklington was there to pick up the rebound and slam the ball into the net. Minutes later Derek Morton did very well to push a strong volley from Paul Green round the post while a long throw from Halford found the head of Danny Collins but he put the ball wide.
The Millers could have made it three at the start of the second half but an effort from Matt Derbyshire was well saved by Derek Morton and a few minutes later Morton was on hand to save a header from Paul Green. At the other end Michael Tidser was in the action again but his pass was a little too heavy for Lee Kilday. Just before the hour mark both sides made numerous substitutions before Tidser saw a good shot saved by Kelle Roos. On seventy-five minutes a super shot from Grant Ward is well saved by Grant Adam who is now in the host`s goal while Danny Ward saw a header go just wide. Jonson Clarke-Harris, on for Paul Green, saw a cracking shot go into the side netting before Adam did well to save a certain goal when the ball deflected off Mason Warren who was on for Mattock. In the final minute of the game some good running from Clarke-Harris saw him round the 'keeper and slide the ball into an empty net to make it three-nil to the visitors.
