We ALL knew where we need to strengthen, but the lack of activity (Mattock & White aside) is worrying me a bit, probably as this time last season we'd signed a boatload. I agree with SE as far as going with quality over quantity as some of last summer's signings were pap..
I'd also like to see Richard Wood given more of a run in the coming season as I rate him.
I think a lot of contracts finish on the 1st of July, and with the championship being more competitive and alluring for players, take Pringle to Fulham, then its going to be hard to attract players to relocate to the area. White and mattock haven't really got to commute to training/home matches over long distances.
I agree also about Richard Wood, he is going to shine this season me thinks.
I have been worried for a while Brad, so I decided to look at other teams activities.
Derby aside (who have made some monster signings!), no-one has really been very active so far in the championship. I'd say we have been one of the more active sides with 2 signings so far.
I would imagine as previous mentioned, a lot of teams will be waiting for July 1st when contracts expire and players get a bit squeaky bum because teams will have started pre-season without them.
Saw Wood at Swansea and Boro, were they his only 2 starts?, I think he has something to offer. Both times against very good opposition was very astute & composed. I think there will be worse pairings in this division than Wood & Broady, need pace at full back though, Tavs perm or Hunt season long have to be a must
Buxton is another case of not wanting to move out of the area, settled lad, living local, knows where his priorities lie, and at 31 his ambition is to play regular football, and he will get it as well with the millers.
Our back 4 looking good, Broadfoot, Wood, Buxton & White.
Never thought i would say the above about Broadfoot, but i can imagine him alongside Wood, and with the other Weds players in our side the gelling of the team will be easier, we dont want a torrid first 10 match run where we lose ground on the opposition.
Broadfoot & Wood together, neither are no quicker than Morgan who was better. Need a Wootton or Rawson loan, manager knows that. Don't think he would play those to together he'd move Arnie back.
Not seen quite enough of Wood but he is certainly confident and a leader.
Broadfoot-the debate continues...much better than Morgan. Hes more mobile, just as fearless, probably a tad quicker and actually has a presence in midfield as he likes to push up and in the box he can actually cause some worry.
Would have liked to have kept Rowe but hey onwards and hopefully upwards. Still need some pace from somewhere, preferably down the right and a goalkeeper. Id give JCJ and Bowery some games together before splashing out on another "experienced" striker.
