I watch MLS on a regular basis on tv and the game is definitely improving in the USA. One of the reasons is that it is attracting decent players from all over the world to go and play there, but the other and far more important reason is that their home grown players are improving beyond all recognition. We can see this reflected in the success of their national team in recent years. The development at grass roots level in the States is nothing short of phenomenal and this augers well for the future of football there. Will it become bigger than it is in Britain? I don't think so but it will eventually be on a par with the game here, and that is good news for football in general .
Can't see it happening, the college system in US is completely geared up to American Football and Basketball, football very popular at young ages but a huge amount of money is pored into the other sports.
The trouble is that in the US the game is being driven from the top down with big money being thrown at it and former star players on a final pay day playing their leagues. There will always be a passing interest in super star names like David Beckham et al. But until the game becomes part of the fabric of American life it will never be a s big as it is in countries like England. Football needs strong and healthy grassroots for it to flourish.
