I think the planned expansion to the ground shows how serious Tony Stewart is about staying in the Championship. There is no point in expanding if this is not the aim. Tony is a very astute businessman who knows that we have to spend on the squad if we are to continue moving forward. Sorting out the Guest and Chrimes problem is also very high on his agenda as this is the only way to increase the off field revenue streams. Tony has always had a well thought out plan to take the club forward. The expansion of the ground is just the next phase. You don't become as successful in business as Tony has become without astute forward planning.
Needs to be done. But not while the squad is in the mess its in. Get a squad of 2 per position of average age 26/27 that can hold its own in this league with quality academy players chomping at the bit & I feel that will be the right time. No good a 20k stadium playing in front of 6-8k in mid table L1 mediocrity. There's even more of a danger of us going down this season. SE's transfer window dealings in 3yrs have overall not been good as we know. But this can and must change
I wonder what the tie-in is btw stadium money and money for players is. And the notion of success on the pitch v success off the pitch.
In toNYS thinking are they mutually exclusive - suspect not...
In terms of fair play the more revenue the ground generates the better. Of course expansion is not the only way to do this. Southampton for example have decided against it based on 90% plus sell outs over each of the last 2 seasons, due to cost and alternative strategy for the club. Instead They have further developed hospitality and academy functions. The cost and profit of the latter believed to be much better than the former. At saint Marys the cost per seat is estimated to be in excess of 3.5k.
