Yes it does Steve, if we are serious about maintaining our championship status next year we need to recruit championship quality players as permanent signings. Using the loan system is fine short term but is very hit (Rawson, Hunt, Lafferty, Lawrence, Wooton, Ladesma) and miss (Fryers, Sammon, Barmby, Wilson, Taylor, Swift) and just as some start to make an impact they disappear again.

While the loan market has been a means to an end this season and could well be a major factor in keeping us up on a limited budget I wouldn't like to see such a turn over of personnel again next season.

Its times like this when Im glad I aint a football manager.

How difficult it must be to recruit quality permanent players at this level on our budget.

Like you have demonstrated S8, its been a 50/50 return, but it may well have kept us up. Next season (if we stay up) the stakes will be higher and the gamble bigger.

We were very fortunate to get smallwood, but I guess it shows they are there in the system. I just hope we have enough eyes and ears out there. If not, that is one area I would be recruiting in.

I agree we do, but seriously are we going to?

An ageing squad, a lot of players deemed not good enough only spells another clear out. We are under the same constraints are we not? that we are light years behind the revenue created by all, yes all the other clubs in this league. The increase in telly money means squat as everyone gets it, and we'll likely have teams going up not on parachute money, being replaced with those that will have it.

Until we sort out the infrastructure to catch up with our on field success, and expand I see little what we can do but continue in the same mould until that point is reached, fighting every season with a mass of loan players because we can't afford them on our books as our own.

Unless Steve & Tone have some mysterious middle / far east benefactor in the pipeline of course!

Good point about the likelyhood of the parachute swap ( just as dangerous in real life) making it more uneven.

I agree is a massive risk - just look at JCH and bowery. However, on the other hand is Derbyshire, Green, Smallwood, Broadfoot (just teasing, but I rate him😆) and Arnie and Frecks, Morgan are decent enough at this level.

It can be done but it will be very risky-the proverbial eggs in one basket.

The question is which one is likely to make us stronger?

I guess there will be a bigger budget for permanent signings v loans but it's going to be very tough again like you said.

I would love to know the difference in Bournemouth, brentford and our budgets.

If we stay up we will have to do a few things differently if we want to avoid a relegation battle.

Loan players we've played this season only ones I'd like to keep are Martinez, Hunt, Wootton, Rawson & Lafferty. Defo' not Ladesmo most of the time he was giving ball away & when he did get something right he milked it. Rawson on a seasons loan.

And out of those T71 we'd afford a big fat zero of them including Wootton who is now appearing regularly for Leeds

Just like everyone else Steve Evans and Tony Stewart live and learn. Mistakes have been made, some would say the mistakes were inevetable.  A seasons worth of experience behind us makes us all wiser and more ready for another crack at the Championship.

Things will have to change and thats progress and a step forward, its not going to be easy next season but Bring it on!
