Bring back the stocks!

Instead of handing out a slap on the wrists I think that the good old fashioned stocks ought to be revived by the local courts as a punishment for people commiting football related offences.

People would, I'm sure,  queue up to throw rotten tomatoes at the convicted hooligan element.

PS. I haven't been drinking.

PPS. I am not on any medication.

PPPS. I think that I ought to get out more.

Situated as we are at New York Stadium, close to the river. We could also bring back another of the old punishments Andy.
What about bringing back the Ducking Stool, we could have a whole line of them alongside the river, and dish out instant punishment to those stepping out of line.

There's something about a public flogging or punishment that might just be more effective than a behind closed doors sentence.

For some it might just be enough to turn away from hurting others especially if they meet the victim too.

Highlights the difficulty with punishment.  Some get fanatical about it one way or the other and of course the difficulty of both the punishment and crime being equal.  Justice is very difficult indeed when it comes to punishment.

Keeping others safe (a minimum requirement) often involves conflict of freedoms and other rights.

I agree that the vunerable always come first, just don't think it works. Violence breeds violence.

Stocks and birching are too good for some of the S*** on todays streets. When you think of what some are getting away with in our own town, well I think the Saudi's would have a better way of dealing with them.
