I thought Id start a topic on Mr Boradfoot as I think he gets an undeserved bad press at times.
Heres why:
Hes passionate-he gives 110% and really enjoys being part of the team on the pitch. He celebrates every goal and reacts to every mistake with passion.
He is not as bad as some make out-On Saturday for example, he was not at fault for either goal. In fact, to me it seemed like they were Arnies man centrally and fryers poor effort at jumping against Gary T. Fletcher on the first.
He gets forward-He is not afraid to get up and down the pitch and in out first goal his presence was crucial (he was the only miller in the area when the ball came over) as a Millwall player had to hook it away from him.
He has awareness-On saturday he was probably responsible for at least 2 interceptions in the box that may have required saves from Collin after Arnie was beaten and another occasion when Fryers was out of position and Arnie drifted too far back towards goal.
I like Broadfoot, he's not the fastes but he's a threat at set pieces and like you said Ian he gives 100% Like every player he has his limits and his lack of pace may be the one real problem in his game. Some dont like Broadfoot but dont see the experience he has to be in the right place at the right time.
It's hard to say if Wood is any better due to lack of playing time but they are both good backups for the team and important parts of the squad.
At the risk of upsetting you Arnason fans, Broadfoot was the best central defender of the two on Saturday. OK he has no pace, but then neither does Arnason or Morgan. Yes Broadfoot has his limitations but is there a more honest hard-working lad at the Club? I don't think so. The lad always does his best even if sometimes that is not good enough. So to all you knockers, get off his back.
No he wasn't at fault for the goal, Zaki Friers was out muscled far too easily by Taylor Fletcher - my views on Friers are unchanged, I fail to see how he would command a fee full stop never mind a £5m fee. But this is a Broadfoot topic and I'm afraid he made a world class defender in Arnason look as poor as him on Saturday. Let's remember this is the same Arnason that had Robin v Persie in his back pocket when he played for Iceland against the Netherlands. I have never seen a centre back get wrong side of the opposition attack so many times in one game - a better attack than Millwall's would have had a field day against us on Saturday. Thankfully they were poor and could not take advantage.
Roll on Morgan coming back because I was having kittens every time the ball was pumped up field on Saturday. Morgs seems to bring the best out of Arnie and vice versa, I feel the same understanding is lacking with the Broadfoot/Arnie combination and they often find themselves too far apart from each other and with the lack of pace in central defence that is crucial to being able to cover for each other.

I'm not a broadfoot fan. Believe it or not I thought it was one of his better games but he disrupts arnies game who looks to be trying to cover for him and not concentrating on his own duties. Makes the back four look like a shambles. Morgan broke down in training on Friday afternoon so not much time to reorganise. Hopefully they will have had more time to get it sorted.
I agree with Flicker and thought Broadfoot upset Arnie's game.
Arnie is a fragile defender and on as many occasions as he is robust and he is the only player in the team that in the space of a few minutes, slips, passes the ball to the opposition, leading as a minimum to a goal scoring opportunity or a goal against and ire's the crowd. Only to find minutes later that he then performs above and beyond the call of duty. Yet the crowd never really dislike him for more than a few moments. He is an enigma.
Broadfoot as has been said, is very hard working, will always put a shift and a half in but lads, he is too slow I'm sorry to say. He will always get caught with a ball over the top and Arnie will then be left trying to cover, skewing his attempt to clear in any direction if we are lucky that he makes contact at all and in the process he will have been pulled out of position.
Morgs and Arnie are a decent combo but still the pair are on the slow side.
So for me, its a new CB partnering Arnie.
Soz Towd Codger, don't sort of agree with you which is rare.
Broadfoot is struggling at this level big time, meh can win headers and he will battle all night long...there his game ends, he's slow, his only pass is "hoof" long and he falls over.
him, Arni and Fryers were pub standard last night.
I hope Arnie gets a niggle and doesnt play for the rest of the season then we will see how awful our only regular international player is, I know I will get stick for the comment, but it will be the only way some of you realise the amount of work and the job he does in a very poor team.
Certain fans just take a total dislike to a player and won't change their minds no matter what. Like the bloke near me that shouts abuse at pringle all game every game, so of it is boarding on real serious abuse and is very offensive.
I am not a broadfoot fan he justs looks like a very enthusiastic fan that has nicked a shirt to play for his team, however I wouldn't abuse him like some fans do to our players.
Overall we are a poor team in a difficult league and are clinging on for survival, we have a manager that cares and is passionate but in the long run those qualities won't be enough without tactical nounce and coaching skills. We have a great chairman and supporting board of directors, unfortunately we have poor fans. No singing from the cop last night (not the first time), too quick to abuse individual players, booing at halftime is stupid
We may stay up we may go down, but if we turn up and show such a lack of commitment, ideas, motivation and desire as we did last night for 25% OF THE REMAINING GAMES IT WILL BE LEAGUE 1 FOOTBALL AGAIN.
However the Morons will be happy because they can blame Pringle and Arnie like they do every game.
Arnie is a decent player at this level but he is not without his faults. Same goes for morgan and to a lesser ( less ability-more faults) extent broadfoot and fryers. Hell! The whole darn team.
But what we lack in quality we can make up with focus and effort but this has been lacking in several games this season.
No point in blaming one player when it's the whole team or at least several individuals that conspire to turn in a performance like last night.
