It's like Billy McEwan All Over Again

I was only a little scamp.

But seem to remember hot shot Bobby & Mendoca going pretty much the same time - might be wrong?

What I do remember is a parallel to what's happening now.

I liken this to buying Xmas presents in January.  You've got em in the sales, you're going to confine them to the loft for 11 months, then drag em out - problem is nobody wants them.

As each day passes & the more thinking I do - the more bleak our scenario seems.  That proud day walking out of the iPro seems oh so long ago

Must admit it is not looking positive, however compared to 5 years ago we have come far and must celebrate that. hopefully we can avoid the drop.

Towards the end of the Billy McEwan's stint as manager it was alleged that he did not even speak with some of the players. There was allegedly some unease between manager and players. It was a very sad time for Club.

 Close enough in time.

I wouldn't put bobby n clive in the same bracket.  Bobby was a complete attacking forward while clive more of a static type with not much versatility.  Both good and I liked Mendoca but he was injury prone and relied on service compared to bobby.

In terms of era comparison I personally couldn't find an era to compare this too

We have never been so progressive on an off the pitch but in terms of comparison maybe we are just batting at about our historical level.

We have to consider the wider environment when doing comparisons.  This applies to players, fans, ground, managers, facilities and media standing. Can anyone say we 'deserve' a more high profile, or talented 'team'  than we have.

All the pieces of our jigsaw are limited by this historic background, so, we are destined to repeat certain cycles and this means attracting players, managers and fans in line with our heritage.

The great thing about NOW!? A chairman unlike any other we have ever had.  A genuine seeker of success with the professional and personal attributes to pursue it. That is what is different for me. Every other framework we have had has been less than wholehearted,  or totally incongruous;  booth, johnston...

Evans is much more of a manager compared to BM in my mind. The sheer experience evans has over BM plus the amount of backing evans now has.

Is SE making mistakes?  You bet! But, he is also not sitting on his arris,  and his mistakes are 'openly admitted', he moves players on as soon as he thinks they are crap. Of course, he may be guilty of taking too many risks - that might prove our undoing.

I thought Mendonca & Williamson played together?

It was Rorherhams version of Beardsley & Lineker

Yes.

must fish out the old programme s

I just thought clive was lacking at times in terms of his attacking/positional play. His injuries and only a young player.

Did he go on to play in the top flight?

Goater was just breaking into the team too i think

Yeah 'Lenny' was just breaking in wasn't he - I think Mendonca went into the top flight with Charlton, and Bobby went to Kilmarnock?
