Arnie has made several mistakes in each of the 3 seasons he has played for us. The nature of the mistakes always appear as basic errors: a back pass, trying to dribble out of trouble, attempting to pass across strikers and defenders and the goal, committing too far forward; and today; a basic head on ball defensive error.
The issue is not just how well he has played for us at times, it's how costly a direct mistake in defence is. It's not that he is not a bad defender, but could someone with more basic defending abilities actually pay dividends across a season?
It may be a conundrum, but does flair have to cost?

I think its harsh and unwarranted - Evans need to stop naming and shaming, needs to stop berating what is a decent championship defence and take big dose of responsibility for his forward facing players, his players that are failing
It's interesting. EVO does decry missed chances but he is uncritical specifically. He even describes a miss penalty as occurring within the normal ebb and flow of a game. However, defensive frailties are seem as unacceptable.
I guess it's a pattern repeated in life everywhere. No one remembers the 99 successful or good outcomes, or daily contribution of effort and thoughtfulness when things go wrong.
The thousands of successful medical interventions v the one lapse in concentration.
The hundreds of GP consultations v the incorrect diagnosis.
The millions of car, and plane journeys v the odd error resulting in calamity.
The harsh word to a loved one v years of dutiful and loving relationship.
Years of work service v an illness and redundancy.
The provision of all our daily comforts and exorbitant lifestyles v the shop that's closed or the delivery that goes astray.

Arnie is flawed in my opinion as a central defender. I would like to see him back in midfield and I think we would do well to get a pacey centre back of quality. Our back line has proved to be fragile at best. Put Arnie in front of the back four and compliment him with Frecks, Smallwood and Ledesma would I think bring a more solid structure into place. Add Becchio into the mix who would feed Ledesma and JCH (To be given an extended run) and we might start to have a winning formula. It's the cheaper option as centrebacks don't cost as much as strikers. If that fails then we need to make a move for Nahki Wells and really break the bank. He's out of favour at The Terriers and would score goals for us ! Unfortunately, I think £2million is the minimum we will need to pay for a Championship striker.

something about that rings true for me...thats a very interesting line up.
