Be honest, did you leave early?

It's interesting to note that I took my wife to her first ever game v blackpool , she is canadian and was  brought up on basketball and ice hockey. Her comment when blackpool scored; what do you expect? It's only the last 10 minutes that ever matter in any game!

I was stunned. She was totally right. And there have I been all these years straining at every pass and decision. Now I just relax and wait for the defining last 10 minute; highly recommended.

Don't you all recall the Don Weston 90th minute winner against Liverpool on Boxing Day 1961 when he slotted it in from an impossible angle in front of the Tivoli? That game taught me to always sit it out.

Not so sure the last 10 mins matters when you're 4 down but I know what you mean! - Freezing in Blackpool tonight no snow and apparently they don't get it cos of the 'salty air' - my stance of place is plastering out CO2 emissions with all the lights etc wouldn't have gone down too well so kept me gob shot. JCH and Frecks in tme and Im certain we'll have to game sewn up by 60 minutes

Slightly before my time Trevor,  but it must have made an impression on you.  Was it against the run of play and back in 1961 would ypu have considered beating Liverpool at home as big a deal as now?

I haven't checked Exeter,  but I ain't having the salty air - no snow idea. It sounds like the ' it's too cold to snow' thingymebob, or the ' you're face ill stay like that' from stressed mums.

I would agree the salty air thing is a bit ******.  It's the salt being picked up from the the Great Salt Lake that makes the snow on the Utah mountains so fine and world famous for those that love to ski powder.  More likely they don't get much snow because they are on the West coast - the one that is kept a bit warmer than the East by the Gulf Stream.

Liverpool were top of the Second Division on Boxing Day 1961 and were eventually promoted in second spot. Bill Shankley had taken over as manager in 1959, Roger Hunt was their centre forward and Ron Yeats was the centre half that day. So they weren't the Liverpool of the 1980s but it was nonetheless a pleasant feeling to beat them when the draw seemed nailed on. You have to remember that in those days away teams played for a point and there were far fewer away victories than there are today. I wouldn't say it was against the run of play and the game was nothing special, but with Don Weston at centre forward a goal was always on the cards.
