Did you go to the game, Villa? What was it like? Anyone look useful?

First time i've seen Youth team this season, but games i've seen Jerry Yates play before he's always impressed me.

Bailey-King looks like one to watch as well, very agile player, good touch and control, maybe needs a couple of kebabs down him to bulk up a bit biggrin but took the goal really well.

Millers goal on 49 minutes, good work by jerry yates wide left, he laid ball off and cross to far side of box found darnelle bailey king who hammered into roof of net...2nd half and Wolves took control, hitting post, having a shot tipped onto bar and also 3 or 4 other close efforts...equaliser 9 from time was a free header from a corner...winner came in last of 4 minutes added, we lost possesion on half way line and player played through middle, keeper came out but ball slotted past him and rolled into empty net...gutted but wolves looked classy at times..good effort from our lads though.

Excellent crowd too for a bitterly cold and extremely wet, December night.....403

Many thanks for taking the trouble to respond, Zippy, and in such interesting detail. A useful account - perhaps you should offer your work to the PA.

I'll note the names of the players you identify as 'promising' but reflect sadly on the fact that in recent years we have hardly ever (never?) brought anyone through into the team via our Youth system.

Is this because we have a manager whose sole response to any situation is to try to buy/loan another player, or because our set up just isn't good enough (or perhaps not resourced well enough)?

Jerry Yates stood out for me at Alfreton. How close is he to getting into the first team squad I wonder?

I think its more to do with the law of averages: we have a small pool to choose from and its quite unusual to be gifted enough to be an athlete of the required standard to play professional sport.

Only very few from even the resourced clubs produce players through their ranks that ultimately end up playing for their paternal club.
