Cheers Kempo - nice to have you aboard!

The plan is

1. Always have a no adverts policy

2. Make the site a crowd run project, yes I may moderate but I would hope everyone views this as their own place. There is no major controlling entity here, it is controlled by us members so when a decision needs to be made we vote democratically.

3. Make the site media rich.  I don't want restrictions like MM, if you want to put a video in a post you should be able to, if you want to put an image you shouldn't need to use something as last century as tinypic.

4. All members will be treated equally, and honestly whatever happened on MM is history, and nothing to do with this site, so yes is like a clean slate (but that's not to say people still have reputations! biggrin - like me knowing my place!).  I will moderate but it will also be done via members so for example if someone needs banning, members will be emailed and a vote taken - it won't be solely my decision but the community's decision - for example.

4. As regards funding, I am prepared to stand the costs and time etc of this site for 3 months, to see how it develops (at the moment very well!), but if it dies off I'm not tied into anything so can pull the plug pretty quickly.  Funding will be on a totally optional donations basis and this could be not at all, one off, or regular like you say a subscription, but nobody will be forced into doing anything.  If the site gets really popular I'll be looking at corporate donations in return for links / menu links, but I reiterate NO product advertising!  For this to happen though I need numbers, members, page views etc which is statistically recorded.

5. The end goal is charitable.  Yes it would be nice if I could be paid for my time, I'm a fair chap, I've always priced my customers down here fairly, I plan for total transparency but essentially I want us to put back into the kids of Rotherham who play mini football for none academy clubs.  These clubs are run by unsung heroes (I know I'm Treasurer of one in Exeter), and I think the FA is starting (a little) to recognise that talent pools exist outside academies as much as in them.  Most youth football is run by volunteers and it would be nice to give them something back.

Essay here endeth smile

Not sure why but now you have a separate OT forum, when I go on the home page all the forums are collapsed and it took me a couple of minutes to work out how to expand them. This might be a bit of a barrier for new users?

Maybe, but it is early days. It cant be that bad; can it?

Hi Exeter,

Well done with the new site its looking good and nice not seeing the *****ing and backbiting on here that was destroying MM. Its really nice to be able to read constructive friendly opinions on here.

Just a suggestion .... any chance of setting the site to automatically open a new tab in the browser when you view a thread or click a link. I prefer that so i can just close the tabs when i have done and i still have the main page open in its own tab so don't have to keep backspacing. Using the option of right click and selecting open in new tab gets a bit wearing after a while. It was one of my main gripes with MM. Don't know if its been suggested already or whether you thought about it or not. Its only a personal preference. All too often i have finished reading a thread and i end up closing the tab and then have to reload the bookmark. Getting old hehehehe

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm not sure this would appeal to everyone, as things like this are a one for all scenario.  Your best best would be to look for something like this that your browser itself handles like the add on below for Firefox (I haven't tested this, so it's a suck it and see thing)

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/open-link-in-new-tab/

Not bothered about any threads from this site opening in new tabs but would be better if any external links open in new tabs. I looked this thread up to make this suggestion so glad its not just me that keeps clicking links and then closing the tab in error

Wrighty - I asked the support people about this, and this is controlled by the user who post the links, I've also checked the code and there's no way to automatically force this to happen.  When you insert want to insert a link, highlight your text & use the chain icon in the icon list above the posting text box , you get more control then of what you want to happen to that link, including opening in a blank page.  I know this is not ideal but I think to keep the ethos of giving members as much control as possible over what they can do is better than the restrictive policy of MM - which let's you do squat!

Down the bottom of the page Villa is a dropdown box where you can select which board you want to return to.

BTW welcome.

Any chance of a 'return to top' button that floats on the right hand side?

Indeed that would be handy - that might delve into the code I have no control for though. I'll certainly ask the question of the yank support though

Personally I think there should be separate areas for football and OT. I think its already starting to look abit messy with all the OT stuff being mixed in.

Also is it possible to show when threads were started and not just when they were last replied to?

I would like to see when threads were started (as Wrighty says) and also would like the posts numbered and timed if possible i.e.

Can you not see the post date information underneath each posts avatar on the left - or is that just me? hmm

O.M.G. Exeter, I don't know if you're joking or not but yes, I can see the day/date/time posted, now!

But honest mate, that info wasn't there before your reply!

p.s. I assume from your "irritated" emoticon face that you're not joking, in which case you must've done something to allow me to see the info!

Oops is that an irritated emote? - for that I apologise - I thought it was a confused one!

But I swear I didn't do nowt - tell a lie all I did was change an option from auto detect date to a DD/MM/YY Time format - must admit I've never noticed it either!
