Wheels are off

I will try and get all these stats correct or as near as i can. I think Paul Warne left us after the 'Boro' game where we had played nine league games. Won three, drawn five and lost one. We had a goal difference of six, scoring twelve goals.

We appointed Taylor after Wood and Peltier had been in charge for the Wigan game which we lost 2-0. Including the Wigan game since Warne left we have played fourteen games, won three, drawn three and lost eight. Our goal difference is now minus six. So that's twelve points from fourteen games. If the last fourteen games returns are mirrored till the end of the season we will be comfortably relegated. What was once a tight defence is now shipping two goals a game on average. Our attack looks so lightweight and it leaves me thinking 'The Wheels have fell off'.

So what has gone wrong?. I think Taylor needs time to stamp his style and get the players believing in it. The problem might be these players he has, cannot play his style and there is very little in the final third. Add to this the high press Warne style seems to have gone and the wing backs are not good enough defensively to keep it tight enough. I said in an earlier post that we had got the rub of the green in a few games and now i think it is evening out and we are not picking up points.

How long can we keep going with Ogbene as the lone striker with Wiles the furthest forward of the midfield? Not long imo. The problem is Taylor doesn't appear to rate the strikers as they are only featuring in bit parts. With the news coming out that only loan signings will be available in January and players going out to accommodate it , the future looks bleak.

What are the options? I will offer one. Play a flat back four with Harding at right back, with Wood Hall and Humphries in it as well. Get Ogbene out wide right and Bramhall wide left. Barlaser sitting in front of the back four trying to influence the game. Have  Wiles and Rathbone  ratting in the middle with the high press and bring Lindsay on when one tires. Play Kelly up top as he is the only striker who can win the ball in the air to relieve pressure and attack the inevitable long ball from the keeper. We have a couple of game changers on the bench with the likes of Kioso (if and when fit) and Cuffy. Ferguson could be an option either left back or left wing back.

Agree with most of that whiston but i don't think we have the players to play how, commendably, Taylor wants us to evolve. He has gambled coming to Rotherham (did he not talk to Kenny Jackett ?) and when January comes and goes and he is not allowed to spend the Barlaser and possibly Ogbene money he may begin to regret coming here. We simply do not pay competitive wages for this level and once again i fear relegation beckons. Don't think this chairman cares what league we are in so long as the club is not losing money. Merry Christmas everybody.

Huddersfield away was one of the worst displays of any Rotherham United team in the last 30 years IMO
If the players that have been offered contracts don't want to stay then go & don't play them before they find a new club regardless of reputation. I'd rather see the youth players have a go.

Now approaching a crucial period in the clubs history. We have lost our proven league one manager and look on course for another relegation unless something quickly changes. Will we see some genuine investment this January into the playing staff or usual hot air ?
