v READING

It's going to be a hot affair down at NYS today. Drinks breaks inevitable - for the crowd as well! We may be thin (thinner) up front if Washington is out after coming off at Port Vale. Perhaps a start for Kelly and a continuation of his Roy of the Rovers RUFC career so far. With all the talk of rejection by a potential Watford loanee, I hope we put a bid in for Stockton from Morecambe. At least he will give us options whereas contuining to chase unenthusiastic stars might end with us having no options up front at all.

Onwards and upwards. UTM!!

Ogbene leading scorer now I believe, he's clearly enjoying his new role. Understandably the second half lost some of its lustre but the expected onslaught from Reading never came. They came close but the defence sat comfortable I thought, so job done. Absolutely brilliant. A long way to go but the signs so far is looking very encouraging.

Sensational today - particularly the first half. In a season that is bound to have it's challenging times - it will be good to look back at those first 20 minutes and remember that we totally dismantled a side with far more resources than we can muster. Humphreys is a wonderful signing and has the composure and class that could elevate us to another level. So many good performances it would be a shame to single anyone else out, apart from Victor who was wonderful.

I agree with you about Humphreys, Glenn. Physically and style wise he reminded me of a young Paul McGrath, who was a superstar so that is a very good thing. If he can learn from some of the experienced heads around him he could become a top player for us. A quick word for Tom Ince. He iwas very classy and he kept going when some Reading players gave up. I thought he was very impressive.

I thought I detected a bit of a father/son spat in the second half Smiler. I believe that's the first time we've kept Ince junior out in the last 6 games that he's opposed us!

Reminds me of the great escape when Ince scored 2 for Derby and celebrated the third goal in arrogant style - only for us to pull three back in the last ten minutes!! UTM

Back to the game and it was a brilliant team effort but special mentions for the Viking who commanded his area brilliantly not to mention several class saves! Humphries who appears to be a brilliant signing and looks far better than Reg did this time last year! Captain fantastic who marshalled everyone, leading by example with icing on the cake of a great goal! And Washington who’s energy was breathtaking in the conditions and a truly amazing strike! UTM

great start against an uncompetitive opposition. Expect Tuesday will give us a better perspective. We simply dare not sell Ogbene or Barlaser. Roll on the end of the transfer window !

It was great to see Washington get the goal his work deserved. Post match Warne described him as a typical Rotherham player, and he is. He always works his socks off. More than that though, his movement is very clever. The only thing stopping him playing at a higher level has been his finishing. Strikers are all about confidence and hopefully that goal will work wonders for him.

There's a great interview with Washington on the Rotherham site:

www.themillers.co.uk/news/2022/august/freeview--it-was-a-great-weekend-for-everyone---washington/

Not only is he a wonderful player, he's also an intelligent and lucid chap - I can see why Warnie likes him!
