Have Millers fans got any appetite for the kind of football that most teams seem to want to play these days? Passing it out from the back, lots of sideways and backwards, one up front, high possession stuff. To be honest I cant imagine it. What I can imagine is whoever the manager is getting dogs abuse the first time we played like that at home and didnt win. I can hear them now on Praise or Grumble. Warne talks about Rotherham fans wanting the team to play a certain way i.e. get it forward quick, get it wide quick and get it in the box quick. Is he wrong? Are we getting left behind or does this season show that we can be successful doing what we traditionally do?

The passing out from the back, passing sideways to and fro then back to the goalie was once favoured by the then England manager Bobby Robson, and was so dull, uninspiring and achieved very little. Who am I to criticize he knew more about football than I did, but that is when I stopped watching the national team.
I wouldn't see Rotherham United achieving much either if they played that way. I think the present set up has played some exciting and thrilling football which has taken us to the top of the league. OK, we lost Saturday. We lost badly in so much as we lost to 10 men after going 1up but our opponents were no mugs and I suspect could finish up in the top 2. Out fought and out thought.
I think it all depends on how Warne and his players responds. Perhaps it's fatigue it could be the squad think they are better than they are. Either way the supporting public need to hold fast and not be good time Charlie's and get behind the team. Promotion has to be fought for not a given right. As Glenn says 'Onwards and upwards'.
I quite like how we play. I think we play some very good football at times and if has got us into a great position. I'm not so much thinking about this season. I'm thinking in general. The most popular managers we have had at NYS have been Evans Warnock and Warne who all like to play in what you might call a fairly direct way. The two managers who tried to be more sophisticated (sorry for the lazy stereotyping) were Stubbs and Redfearn who the crowd turned on quickly and quite viciously. I'm thinking if and when Warne moves on would the crowd get behind any manager who wanted to do it differently? I dont think they would have the patience that would be needed. Rightly or wrongly.
It amazed me that teams such as Morecambe tried to play out from the back. If you have the quality of Man City, perhaps it makes sense, but even the best teams often get it wrong and cheap goals result. I think we play to our strengths. There's nothing wrong in knocking the ball long to Smith because his touch and control are sublime. However, we also have the ability to move it quickly and accurately through midfield. We also have the option of the long diagonal ball from Barlaser to Ogbene or the more intricate approach of a move down the left to put Ferguson in a position to cross. If we started to play short passes around our own penalty area between Vickers, Icky and Wood, I'd be convinced that we'd got far too much ahead of ourselves and lost the plot!
