I really think your views on football are up with the best Smiler. So to read the above has shocked me. Grealish looked to me like he was the only one who could spark England in to life last night. His substitution baffled many including myself. He runs at the opposition and gets them on the back foot which on many occasions results in them fouling him. It was Grealish who was fouled for the free kick last night which resulted in a goal from it.
England took Grealish off and put on Saka. This is a young lad who is just making his mark in the game so i have no worries about putting him on. However, it looked a bit like a young first former playing against fourth and fifth years in the school yard. His time will come but he is a long way off being the real deal imo. Kane has a proven record in international football but last night and most of the last year it has looked like he is playing in divers boots. Back to Grealish. I would give him a free role to roam and inflict damage in the attacking third of the pitch. His close control is outstanding and he would be the first attacking player on the team sheet for me. All about opinions Smiler.
I don't like how Grealish tries to 'win' free kicks. I hated it when he did it against us, I hate to watch him do it in games I'm neutral about and when he is playing for a team I want to support I find it difficult. He isn't the only one by the way - I acknowledge that.
As a footballer I think he is overrated. Yes, he has tremendous ability but in my opinion he flatters to deceive. He has way too many touches which makes him look good at times, but at the expense of the team. It is relatively easy for any well organised team to defend. I think he tends to slow play down and disrupt the flow of the side. A bit like an international version of Barry Bannon at Hillsborough. He is probably their most talented player but they are a worse side when he is in it. I think he will struggle to influence games against very good sides. That's a purely football opinion.
I think we have got room for two players of that type in that side (as last night showed, trying to shoehorn three in doesn't work - we were so vulnerable to the counter-attack it wasn't true) and there are three or four I would have in there before Jack Grealish.
