Yesterday was the prime example for me of why we need three keepers in the squad. One out isolating, and the stand-in goes down with a nasty injury early in the game. If we didnt have a third on the bench that would have been a very nervy moment.
Johansson & Blackman have made some very good saves recently but you would change them for a third choice keeper that you admit have only seen once 18 month ago and didn’t take much notice of how he played. Deluded is the only word I can think of to describe you.
Just for your information all goalkeepers make mistakes that lead to goals not just ours.
As an aside, I thought Iversen looked a bit suspect yesterday. Two or three times there were situations in which his defenders were looking for him to command a situation and he dithered. He was slow off his line for the chance that Wiles tried to clip over him left footed, and he got himself into no-mans-land by starting to come then changing his mind when Wiles tried to head it over him. That was a trait he had with us, although on the whole he did well for us. Most keepers at this level have their weaknesses. Blackman could do with Johansson's courage and communication skills. Johansson could do with Blackman's physical stature. If we could create a hybrid keeper with the best aspects of both, we would have a Premier League keeper on our hands. Vickers.....who knows? I am not really in favour of experimenting just to find out. I assume the management assess them all, and will be happy to let them decide.
I'd sooner have 2 keepers reliable than what we've got now. Blackman no fault of his own he's been rebuilt because of injuries so he's not that mobile. Johansson just can't deal with crosses under pressure, if I was the opposition management I'd just say get those crosses in bound to get a mistake off him. Vickers it's not an experiment, it's a case of elimination see if he's better that two we've seen so far this season.
I'd agree with all that Smiler. Warne says Vickers is consistently the best in training so I would expect him to get an opportunity before long. Prefer Blackman of the other two but neither are a patch on Rodak. Johansson's size and lack of experience will continue to cost us i'm afraid (eg Preston's goal yesterday ?).
You are dead right my friend about Johansson with crosses he just flapped at it for their goal have had a couple of looks at it did nothing to change my mind. If Blackman is covid free I expect him to start against Cardiff.
What I can gather is Lincoln C because they would be playing in empty stadiums this season weren't in a position to offer Vickers & two more new contracts. Our goalkeeper coach now was at Lincoln part of last season so will know his capabilities. I don't go on heights of players they are said to be on wikipedia but he appears to be taller than Johansson. I'd have him in the side against Cardiff. We can't keep playing keepers giving goals away.
What you need to realise Glenn is that the gruesome brothers worked for BSC in the 70's, and if you made a mistake you were sacked when they were fighting the cold War on behalf of we mere mortals. That's how football management works in the 21st century. Do keep up.
