Ogbene in a 352 formation

Smiler raised this on another topic. For me we would have to revert to 451 to accommodate him. What do others think? Remember the two ronnies rule when replying

Honestly, I don't know the answer. I was going to say he will never be a wing back but then I look at someone like Lamptey at Brighton and I wonder whether he could do that job. I have never seen him play centrally. I know his pace would frighten a lot of central defenders. My feeling is that to get him in we would have to play 451 or 442 but I am not 100% certain.

Pointless thread. We would play 4-5-1 or 4-4-1-1 if Ogbene was fit.

Good question Henson. I'd agree with smiler that we'd probably have to play him wide right in a 451 or 442, not that I think we'll play 442 very often in this division, unless we're chasing a game. If we're going to stick with 352 he could possibly be the answer to the pacey striker question, or possibly play in a free role behind the centre forward where he's just allowed to get the ball and run where he wants and cause problems that way, but I'd be surprised to see Warne go for that option.

As good as he is, I think he's got a lot better in fans minds since he's been injured. He's not really proven at Championship level and we shouldn't pin all our hopes on him getting back to fitness.

Smiler its interesting to see how other coaches work with their best players to help them adapt to different positions. The pace he has could frighten central defenders if we could help him to play in that role equally your comments about the wing back role might work out. Personally think that we have to go with 2 up top in this division, but simply can't afford to play 442. Olusunde has looked good in the wing back role so the second striker role may be where he could be used. What do others thing TTR rules spply

You haven't got a clue. Ogbene he can play on either wing. He's definitely not a striker or a goalscorer.

gwru some of these so called experts don't even know if Ogbene will be the same player after his injury. With our track record I don't hold out much hope.

352 has been the formation which has seen us look more likely to pick up points, so I look at this issue from the perspective of how we fit Ogbene into 352 rather than what other formation we should adopt to accommodate him. My recollection is that Chieo performed his defensive duties really well and he's not totally dissimilar to Olosunde - the difference would be an emphasis on attack rather than defence. This would be my preferred role for him. Playing him as the pacey attacker alongside Smudge would be a new venture which would probably take some time to work out. However, it's not beyond question and it would be good to have options to keep the opposition on their toes.

BTW, love the TTR rule - it could brighten up an otherwise depressing season!

Good post Glenn, I agree with you maybe wing back at home in a 352 is worth a try The free role in and around Smith probably needs a pre season to work on. Be good to see him back on the pitch. Thanks for the support with the TTR rules

The question is how much pace will Ogbene have retained after this really serious injury.

Splinter - as long as he's faster than the opposition's defenders, I'll be happy! But I share your concern.

Into the new year we are potentially going to have plenty of wingers available who just won’t fit into the current system. The squad for me was never built for 3-5-2. I can see us going back to 4-5-1.
