thats a good team brad but ladapo isnt a target man

Me personally i would drop either wiles or lindsey and play hirst as the number 10 role. I see your point about Hirst but he needs proper game time
Or
Im tempted to go radical even further and throw a curve ball at preston
with mattock injured
play 3 at back with wood in middle

sadlier and harding as wing backs
barlaser in middle with lindsey and wiles either side
and lay with 2 up front

in a 3 1 4 2

Not sure I agree with Sadlier as a wing back but agree with the basic principle. I'd like to see us try a 352 kind of formation.

Can't have Thompson or Clarke in the side. Other keeper Harding Ihiekwe A Mac Olosunde; Wiles Lindsay Barlaser Miller; Sadlier; Hirst playing 4-4-1-1

We can have Thompson or Clarke if Warne picks them.

Also, not for the first time, the other keepers name is Johansson. It isn't that hard to remember.

Lindsay in a more DM mode with Wiles in a number 10 supporting Ladapo. Thompson less likely to do summat daft than McDonald, Clarke is a LB by trade but if no ones gonna play him why is he on the books? Sadlier is more effective in a wide mode also he & Miller could swap flanks.

I am not going to pick the entire team woody needs to play. How many times has he been written off dragged us to promotion twice. We have looked a better team when he has played this season.

Looking at the first few posts i think it shows how difficult it is to get the right set up. I agree with Gwru i wouldn't play Thomson or Clarke as first choice in a back four. Thompson looked much better at right back than cehtral defender. He was easily knocked about there and won very little in the air. I suppose a case can be made for Clarke but for me he looks so lightweight both on the pitch and off it. I saw him in the Co-op in Wickersley last year and i have never seen a footballer with thinner legs. That's not a bar but i think i would prefer Jones or Olosunde even though they are right footed. I think Warne expected one or both of Thompson or Clarke to be out on loan.

If we play three at the back, the central of the three has to have that yard of pace and be able to read the game well. Only Ihiekwe could do that imo. I think we have to give Sadlier and possibly Hirst a run in the team. Sadlier scored in a division lower so i think we should play him in an advanced role. I have still to work out what Hirsts best role is. Not sure it is as a lone striker so maybe at the side of Ladapo with Sadlier in an advance midfiled role. Possibly a 3.4.1.2 Johansson.. Harding Ihiekwe Jones... Olosunde Lindsay. Barlaser Miller... Sadlier... Ladapo, Hirst. Not a prayer that will be the side but it is something different.

Blackman

Harding Ihiekwe Macdonald Olosunde

Jozefzoon Wiles Barlaser Miller

Sadlier

Ladapo

I don’t think there’s any need to tinker with the back bar finding a body to fill in at left back. Like to see Sadlier as a ten supporting a striker, got a fair few goals playing that position for Donny.

warne will play Wiles at left back if Jones isnt fit, he loves to play people out of position (thinks he is pep!!) I think Hirst deserves a full 90 mins he looks eager and keen to prove himself you cannot say that about many of them. Lyndsey, Barlasar, wiles, Miller, Ike look like they are up for it,
For me we have to change our approach Preston will be expecting the same tactics and formation so surprise them and have a bench that allows a plan B if it goes tits up not one with like for like. Also can we get the 3 stooges on the EFL commentary to focus on the game and not keep talking about playing in brown boots and what life was like just after the war.

One of those three stooges is John Breckin the best left back I have seen play for the millers plus he was assistant to Ronnie Moore what a team they were. I don't mind their commentary they do meander a bit does not bother me as I keep saying it does not have to be deadly serious all of the time.

I don't mind Breck at all. Seen him out he always speaks. I do agree with Derby time to try Hirst up front with Sadlier behind him. Warney he hasn't got to panic. Don't want fringe players not good enough in side. Play Olosunde at left back he's played well there before. Wiles on right of midfield with Lindsay & Barlaser in a midfield 3, Miller on the left.

I don't mind the commentary, I think its called fair to say they are all Rotherham fans and is light hearted.

If you want an idea what bad commentary is like, flick to the oppositions comms usually on local radio. You'll have never heard as much bias in your life and the big club syndrome is nauseating.

Agree C we don't need to do much at back and middle.

Sadlier as 10, Interesting that one ... if we play this way Sadlier MUST get close to Freddy and not play too deep, and we need to get behind their back 4 and put ball in front of our strikers - hoof ball to Ladapo is something we definitely know doesn't work.

I'd maybe try Vassell or Hirst in place of Sadlier in same set up, as they are proper strikers (in theory at least)

Problem is we/Warney can't see what works up front and we can't afford too many games to keep experimenting.

Smith lone striker is NOT working - I hope Warney has seen enough of that now, and if he persists with that I might start to sound like GWRU! smilesmile

We (sometimes) are a bogey team for Preston - let's keep that going!

Which Preston team will turn up today? The one that has won four and drawn one away or the one that has lost all their league home games. They sit in the middle of the table with thirteen points and have scored fourteen goals(only four teams have scored more). Another team who like to play with a loan striker in a 4.2.3.1 set up. They have played with two up top twice this season against Huddersfield and Stoke but won at Reading with just the one striker. I expect a 4.2.3.1 from them today but i also expected Luton to play three at the back which they didn't.

We are big underdogs today and i think a point would be a good return, although we have a fair record against them. Warne has made it clear he will play the lone striker (unless he is playing mind games with them) and i expect it will be Ladapo or Hirst with possibly Sadlier in the number 10 role.
I expect a 4.4.1.1.
Johansson

Harding Ihiekwe A. McDonald Wiles.

Josefzoon Lindsay Barlaser Miller

Sadlier.

Hirst.
