Team tonight

Warne has to go for an attacking option 1 up front isnt producing goals Results and shots on target speak for themselves And his argument that we were jades doesnt run with me. For a manager who prides himself on fitness levels it was a poor comment. Defence picks itself Midfield for me is sadlier wiles barlaser miller Ladapo hirst

Your thread crossed with mine mate - so I've deleted mine and put my post here

We could do with this win to go up a couple of places and keep us away from the bottom 3.

I can't decide what 2 players I'd like to see up front, whether to give Hirst a run of games, or bring Vassell in (can he do worse - no)..

I think after Warney's comments about needing to keep players fresh, he will make quite a few changes.

From season so far, luck seems to be the deciding factor in if we win or lose... so let's get lucky!

Problem with 442 is that we have looked even less like scoring.

Wiles & Barlaser only in midfield won't work. Blackman: Harding Ihiekwe A Mac Olosunde; Wiles Lindsay Barlaser Miller; Sadlier; Hirst playing 4-5-1-1

I tend to agree with 'Villa' that we have looked less likely to score when we have gone 4.4.2. However, we have hardly been ripping in goals when we have played one up top. In nine games we have only scored eight and three of those came in one game. Scoring is a problem we all know that.

I think Luton are a team we should be looking to beat and certainly not lose to. They have beaten Wednesday and Wycombe like us and have added a couple of other wins attaining thirteen points so far. They have only scored seven goals but have a decent defence. They like to keep hold of the ball but like us lack a cutting edge imo. They like to play 3.4.1.2. Can we set up similar to them and try a back three. I think we have to try something without giving the midfield up which with our players i think we do if we play only four in the midfield. Getting the balance with three at the back appears difficult.

With that in mind how about this taeam

Blackman
A. Macdonald Ihiekwe Mattock
Harding Lindsay Barlaser Miller
Sadlier
Hirst Ladapo or Vassell

If I was going 442 it would be:

Blackman

Harding Macdonald Wood Mattock

Jozfzoon Wiles Barlaser Miller

Smith Vassell

451

Blackman

Harding Macdonald Wood Mattock

Josefzoon Wiles Barlaser Lindsay Sadlier

Miller

Nothing against Iheckwa think he needs a rest/kick up the backside.

Getting desperate if we are contemplating bringing back Vassell. We haven't got a decent striker so an option might be to play Miller on his own up front and pack the midfield giving each the licence to push forward with Miller when opportunities arise. But i worry whether we have the discipline to do that. We need to win tonight-no excuses.

If Whiston is right about Luton having a back 3 then i would go with the same side that beat Wednesday who also played that way. We got 4-5-1 right on that day with 2 proper wingers attacking with pace. I wouldn’t abandon it so quickly just because we couldnt break down a very experienced Stoke side. Have to disclose that i am very anti 4-4-2. Though i was last season too and to my surprise it worked. Just can’t see us doing it at this level.

Further to my previous post I don’t think 442 works. I personally feel we need to go 451 in this division mainly because that is where how better players are.

I like 2 up, but point taken about our best players are in the middle & wide

But it depends on wingers & midfielders getting into scoring positions though, which Lindsay did last time at home, so maybe it will work.

We need at least 1 win out of today or Saturday.

Fingers crossed.

I think I agree with Villa. We have got a number of good midfielders and a dearth of quality strikers. Playing 451 isnt necessarily a defensive option. I havent seen much that you could call good link up play when we have had two up front. More bodies doesnt necessarily mean better play and more chances, particularly if we cant get the ball to give them a supply. Having said that, I wouldnt be surprised to see 442 today. I think I would start Hirst tonight either as the one or as one of two. He must be chomping at the bit. He is a but of a wild card, but ai would give him his opportunity.

As long as Smith doesnt play i think we have a chance. I would give hirst 3 games as the main striker and see how he fairs, chopping and changing works for man city and liverpool but not for us, we do not have the quality in depth.

brasalar, Lyndsey, wiles in the middle, miller and a.n. other wide hirst the main man back 4 stays the same as Stoke

I'm sure Warney's trying to keep his boys happy but why 3 strikers on the bench & no Olosunde.

Because he doesn't have 10% of your knowledge of the game, he doesn't see the fitness or performance of the players in training every day like you do.

Why would he not care about keeping Olosunde happy? Wasn't he a 'Warney Boy' when he was playing every week last season?
