Sad to hear that he's died after a long illness. My memory of his dance with the World Cup on the lap of honour in 1966 is one of my abiding footballing memories.

Thanks for the memories Nobby - RIP.

Yes - he had advanced dementia but also prostate cancer - not a great way for such a hero to depart!

I was one of the 54,263 crowd who saw him play against Rotherham in the 4th round of the FA Cup in 1966. My first away game!

Nothing needs to be said about Nobby Stiles the footballer. He had an extraordinary career. Every member of that team of 66 will be remembered as a legend. I spent some time many years ago working with John Stiles, Nobby Stiles's son (John was himself a pro at Leeds and Donny) and through that got to meet Nobby Stiles a handful of times for a few minutes at a time. Not enough to really know him, but enough to be able to say that he came over as very humble and a real gentleman. RiP Nobby Stiles.
