Graham Coughlan

Has tonight been sacked by Mansfield after a poor start to the season. He had a good spell at Bristol Rovers last season, so much so that gwru wanted him in at RUFC to replace our manager, who apparently had no hope of getting us up. Sorry for mentioning that, but it's true. Anyway, Coughlan was a good player for us in some difficult times so I hope he gets another go somewhere if that's what he wants.

What about your statement against Reading we are playing the best football in year's then we go and lose 3-0. Still laughing about that one😁.

It's a fickle old business! Couglan has brought quite a few new players in and they were amongst the favourites for promotion - including me. As usual, the expectations amongst fans and Directors exceeds the required patience and footballing commonsense which would have allowed Coughlan time to develop the side into an effective unit. Fortunately, Rotherham are blessed with an owner and Directors who are wiser and understand the potential of the current squad and the quality of our manager!

Not sure what that has got to do with Graham Coughlan.

What you missed from your story is that I also said that we hadn't got the goals to make that football count.  But don't let the facts spoil a good troll.  That you dont understand that in football it is perfectly possible to play really well for 45 minutes and lose the game speaks volumes about you.

Good look tonight.  I hope we beat you, but I have no animosity towards the  Owls.

They are near the bottom, but they have drawn more than half of their games.

Do you follow Aussie Rules from your time out there Glenn?  I like to watch it.  They tend to stick with head coaches for several years at a time.  It's a bit counter intuitive when you think about how competitive Aussies are with their sports.  Perhaps it is because they dont have a promotion/relegation system?

Certainly in recent years in our football the amount of time given to managers has been scandalous.  I think Mr Stewart was too quick on the trigger once or twice.  I think the Kenny Jackett fiasco taught him the value of having a manager who really cares about and lives and breathes the club.

I fear some of the fans are starting to turn against Warne already, some of the reaction after Saturdays game was ridiculous, and I don't meant the usual suspects on here, I mean on social media and other boards. I really don't know what people expect in this league, there is no realism from a lot of our fans. So much for 'as long as we compete then we can't really complain'. I really hope Tony Stewart holds his nerve.

We have the next 3 out of 4 games at home if we don't do the business time to change the manager. The man for me Mick McCarthy he will keep us up.

And then what? When we struggle again the following season because our budget is so much lower than the other teams, do you sack Mick McCarthy? Then who do you get?

There's some laughable comments on here. Best football played for years & quality of our manager. Warney should have gone last relegation but instead on here most celebrated relegation. I know we've got to work to our budget but transfer window again still no wide men with Ogbene out & up front where's goals coming from. I know topic is Coughlan but don't moan we're not keeping to it when last week smiler & co changed a topic to talk about guitars! Thought this was meant to be about sports!

How do you live with yourself gwsw - in one post your alter ego says you want McCarthy and in the next you say you don't want him. Roses are red, violets are blue, I have schizophrenia, and so do I.

Used to watch it frequently Smiler and went to quite a few games. In terms of athleticism, it's probably the most demanding team sport there is. It also has fabulous levels of skill and legitimate physicality. Has it's origins in cricket! In the off season, cricketers developed the game for something to do. Hence the oval shaped pitches and the white umpire coats worn by the officials.

So once again a thread started about Graham Coughlan, is turned into a sack Warney rant from Toot and Ploot.

It is an absolute joke talking about changing the manager.

Surprise surprise - the teams that came up from League One are finding life difficult. It happened last season. Charlton went straight back down, Barnsley stayed up because Wigan went bust at the last minute and Luton secured survival on the final day of the season. This season Wycombe have one point from eight, and Coventry are below us in the league having played a game more. Everybody knew before the season started that it was going to be difficult, and it is. That is because we are (relatively speaking) paupers in a rich man's world.

We have competed in every game so far. The odd goal has decided every game except Saturday, when the scoreline flattered Reading massively. We are playing decent football, having a fair share of possession for the first time I can remember in this league, and look like we have every chance to compete and give it a good go.

Honestly, people who are moaning need to give their heads a wobble.

The goals are going to come from your boy Hirst (with an I) aren't they, after all you cast your expert eye over him for seven whole minutes when he made a cameo substitute appearance for Leicester and you decreed that 'you saw something'. I did find it quite hilarious with your tactical musings about playing one up front, closely followed by a repetitive bleat that 'we haven't got much going forward'. Were you wrong, or did you change your mind?

It can be frustrating to watch when the ball gets snared up repeatedly, but when the ball is on the move it is fantastically free flowing and you are right, they are tremendous athletes.  Incidentally, I know that a lot of football coaches study the game as a lesson in how to move the ball around, move defenders around and create space.  At the end of the day those basic principles apply across Rugby, Aussie Rules, Hockey etc etc and I think there is more cross-sport learning now than there ever has been.

How do you explain their patience with their coaches, Glenn?  Example, Gold Coast Suns appointed their head coach in 2017.  They hardly won a game for two seasons, but they stuck with him.  This season they improved to about 13th out of 18 in the 'ladder', and he is still there looking to improve again next year.  That isn't out of the ordinary in that sport.

We see some managers sacked after a handful of matches.  Why are we so different?

Is it perhaps that they don't have promotion and relegation, so that they are more financially stable and aren't under financial pressure to change their fortunes overnight?
