Great bit of business even though it includes a 50% sell on fee. If he continues to improve and helps us to secure our Championship status, he could be worth a substantial fee in the future of which our 50% will be very significant.
Welcome back Dan, there's work to be done in the creative department of the midfield!
According to a newspaper report from Newcasle the deal has been done but they have a 50% sell on clause probably the only way we could get him. I can remember when we signed Danny Ward from Huddersfield same deal hope it happens.
Great news if true. We know what we are getting and he knows what he is coming to. The way the deal is apparently structured makes him affordable. Again, he gives us something we havent currently got in the mix. I think the club should be applauded and backed to the hilt by the supporters for giving it a good go.
The sell on....ouch! But more importantly It's happening!!
Brad - Apparently the fee is £300K - a real bargain. If he eventually goes for £6M, I'd be perfectly happy to pass £3M back to Newcastle for their creativity in allowing him to come to us. They could easily have stuck a fee of £1M+ on him which would have put him out of our range.
Yes the sell on fee is hefty but that would have brought the up front fee down quite a bit, which is a welcome bonus considering the current situation.
Fair play to all involved, Barlaser could have easily had another year on premier league money like so many others do.
Great signing. If ever there was a player who could come in and hit the ground running this is it. He should fit back into the group seamlessly, and he has played two or three times for Newcastle recently so should be close to if not match fit. Great ambition shown by the club to invest in a good young player at an uncertain time. We are adding quality at a time when we have started the season promisingly. Well done all round, and welcome back Dan Barlaser.
Great interview on the official Rotherham site with Barlaser. He seems like a really good, level headed young man whose looking forward to keeping us in the Championship. Interestingly, the person who appears to have had most influence on his return is Smith! If that's the case, good on yer Smudger!!
