This bloke has been excellent in our first three league games, and in my opinion has improved from one game to the next. Positionally he is good and he is seeing the game and talking to others. His fitness levels look excellent and we are also now seeing a good range of passing. The ball that he found Wiles with to win the penalty was slide rule In the position he plays experience goes a long way, and with 'legs' around him the midfield looks good. We aren't getting overrun as we have at times before in this division. Good for him that he has made his mark and hopefully he can stay fit and keep performing.
I'd written S McDonald off but proved me wrong so far early into the new season. Him & Wiles they've got the shirts for the next game. Crooks got it prove in the championship. Would still like Barlaser here & a Left back. Wonder if we can wheel & deal with our forwards. Can't see Vassell & Ladapo starting much, the former at least moving on & another forward up to this level bringing in.
Smiler - I think we first saw MacDonald away at Donny last season where he looked like he could do the business for us. Unfortunately, he went downhill from there and I suspected, at his age, that he would not be able to overcome his injury issues and regain a good level of fitness. Credit to him and the coaching team, he has worked immensely hard to get where he is today. He really is the steady, hardworking, calm leader that we need in midfield and he's been the standout player over our first three games. Paul Warne has to be given the credit for identifying his potential and investing in his recuperation to give us an excellent asset at a bargain basement price. It's the kind of foresight and professional a***en that makes him the ideal manager for a team that operates on a relatively shoestring budget.
gwru admits he’s was wrong to write off MacDonald and then pretty much writes off Crooks, Vassell and Ladapo in the same post. You couldn’t make it up!
Just want to give Gwru credit for saying he was wrong about Macdonald. As regards our strikers I think we will be going with what we have we seem to be better defensively than previous Championship campaigns (still early days) and maybe this is to the detriment of our strikers who put in a hell of a lot of work as our first line of defence as it were I can’t honestly see any getting to double figures but will gladly be proved wrong Fact is that’s why the big money is spent and we ain’t gonna do it the best we can hope is we get the balance right between defence and attack and everyone is going to have to chip in with goals
I had massive doubts about McDonald and i will be honest i still have. Not because of his ability, his reading of the game, his experience, but his lack of games in the past for his age. He is 32 yrs old but has only played 224 games in fifteen seasons. admittedly early on his career at Swansea he hardly featured. He has played over 70 times in the championship and had a good run at Wigan playing 39 times in the 2016/17 season. Since then he has had a serious injury and with us last season got an injury then an illness.
He has the experience to help midfield players like Wiles and Lindsay who will benefit from having him around. If we can keep him fit and add Barlaser, then i think it gives us a chance, as Smiler said,of not being overrun in the middle of the park. At 32 he looks much fitter than last season, so let us hope he can avoid the injuries which look to have blighted his career.
We are only three league games in so it remains to be seen whether Shaun MacDonald can stay fit and carry on perdorming at this level. If he can he will be important to us. He might not have to do it every week though. On iplayer yesterday the commentator said that we have eight games in December and Breck said a few times that it is a squad game these days and I think he is right. I really think that if we can add one or two more, we will be in a position where we would almost be able to field two different elevens of comparable strength on any given day, or change the way we set up without disruption. Miller made a promising start and Angus McDonald also look the part. On the whole we seem to have recruited well.
I agree smiler he has been excellent. At Donny for 60 mins last year we controlled the game, Mac went off injured and the game changed, as long as he stays fit then his experience could really help us.
Not a great Mattock fan but there is no way he would have given away the pen yesterday, Jones was too close on a bloke going nowhere
Don't blame Jones for that penalty blame the ref what was he supposed to do let the player get passed him. That was not a foul they were doing that all afternoon and this so called official was buying it. Breckin who was on iFollow said straight away the ref has evened things up was spot on. You can't beat 12 men.
Yes he has been the player we have been missing since smallwood left, we get barlaser over the line then we could be sorted with barlaser been the playmaker from midfield
Looks really fit, I'm not sure his issue last season was fitness it was more illness, remember seeing him at a game when he wasn't involved and he looked really unwell so hopefully that's all behind him now.
