Just heard on Facebook Swifty has had a terminal cancer diagnosis just days after us losing Johnny Quinn. Anyone who has anything positive about this god awful year (& I know the Millers won promotion before you start) is beyond optimistic.
Commanding Centre back with distinctive blond hair, he was heading bricks decades before Woody, devastating news for Millers of a certain age!
I was born in 68 so although I might have seen him from a perch on the wall at the back of the Tivoli End I dont really remember watching John Quinn play for us. I do remember watching his All-Stars many times. He must have raised tens or hundreds of thousands for charity and by all accounts he was a real gent. I remember Trevor Swift more clearly. He was a commanding no nonsense centre half. Rotherham born and bred and I think ran a butchers shop in town for years after he finished playing. I think I might have also seen him play for Worksop Town (who i used to watch regularly) after he finished with us, but someone might put me right on that. Good luck to Trevor Swift with his battle. Every day at the moment the news seems to produce pieces that make things like football matches feel very trivial.

Smiler - when we emerge from this nightmare, I'll fill you in on the wonderful times we enjoyed as a longstanding Div 2 (Championship) side and the great characters that graced Millmoor. You can't help being born too late so I'll get the first round in!!
All the best to Swifty. A solid CB and a humble, honest butcher at the indoor market in town.
There has been some very sad news in the last 48 hours now Trevor Swift. I can remember his playing days for us good hard central defender took no prisoners a fans favorite.

Something to look forward to Glenn - you buying a pint! Hopefully that an happen sooner rather than later. The really good times for me as a Miller started when Mullen, Moore, Towner and Seasman arrived. Of course the players in the late seventies were my heroes because they are when you are very young no matter how good or bad the team is, but they were relatively lean years success wise. I remember a promotion secured at Southport in 74/5 and I got the number six shirt as it came into the crowd which I believe I still have. Could that even have been Trevor Swifts shirt I wonder? Was he playing with us that season? I understand though that in the sixties we were a very good side that played a lot of good football.
Can remember Chopper Swift. Light coloured hair, liked a tackle. Played for us while 1975, over 200 games for us. Wish him all the best in the battle he's got now.
I remember a good friend of mine Chris Hudson played for Rotherham in the late 60's early seventies until injury did for him. Chopper Swift was in the team then and captained them at a young age. Chris said he was a natural leader, tough and uncompromising but a really good bloke. I think Trevor joined Beals the butchers in the market and possibly took it over.
What dark news particularly after hearing of the mighty Quinn's passing. I too remember the grand old days when Swift played for us, a huge part of my youth. I wish him and his family all the best at such a time.
