It would be interesting to hear grus alternative take on management, although if he did listen to the podcast I suspect that he's now hiding behind the settee. I've never managed a football team, but in my semi pro days, after we had lost the first two or three games of the season (I was in my late 20's at the time and hadn't missed many games for seven or eight seasons) I asked him if I could do the pre game team talk. He asked why. I said, well what is there to lose. He said ok. He was locked out. My message was we're all in this together.
Do you enjoy losing? Get out there and don't let me down, but, more importantly, don't let yourselves down. We didn't lose for the next seven games. I don't think that he did a team talk again in all the time that I was there.
Anyway gru, does that make me like Warney, a soft touch, which is what you think that he is? Warneys principles are similar to mine, and can apply to a managerial role in any walk of life. Get everyone on board. Do that and you are 90% of the way there.
