Ludicrous statement. Of course he won't be happy with being second choice. He'll be fighting Blackman for the shirt every inch of the way. He's only 21 and has time on his side. Even if he only plays half a dozen games this coming season he'll have had experience in a Championship side.

Not exactly getting everyone that excited! Signing a keeper happy to be 2nd choice. Left back Midfielder Big forward required ASAP
Ready for the battles ahead, and the Millers games.
We have signed a young keeper who has returned to this country from Sweden to try and forge himself a career. He has had a good schooling at two Premier league clubs and seems to be well thought of. On his signing, Warne said that Johansson might start as number two keeper behind Blackman but that he could see Johansson challenging for the starting spot and becoming number one at some point. Johansson himself gave an interview talking about how he was looking forward to competing for the starters spot.
In that context gwru criticises the signing of '...a keeper happy to be second choice'. Obviously idiotic, but what can you expect from someone who advocates signing Fraser from Burton - a player he doesn't remember seeing play but has a good gut feeling about - and in exchange getting rid of either the best young player we have produced in years (Wiles) or a player who was the top scoring midfielder in League One and who made the League One team of the year as voted for by the divisions managers and his fellow professionals (Crooks).
Nothing changes.
Overall I think we have signed well. We have limited resources but have assembled a good squad with some depth which we will need as the games will come thick and fast. There are probably a couple more to come in, as we only have one loanee up to press. I wouldn't be surprised to se Barlaser back for one. The loan market will hot up when the Premier League clubs settle on their final squads.
I agree with those who say that Jones was lucky to get a new deal, but then we don't know the terms of that deal. It may be that he is on reduced money and/or with an element of appearance based reward. I would like to think so. If so, he can still do a job and has valuable experience at the level.
smiler good to have you back. Agree with most of what you've said. I meant think most would think there's more important issues than signing a no. 2 keeper though in the grand scheme of things it's got the keeper position sorted.
Nice to see you posting again Smiler, and as you say ready for the battle ahead. I liken it to visiting Scotland in June and having to deal with the midges....... pesky little things but something you have to learn to live with.
wont be 2nd choice for long after that performance by blackman, he was horrendous. Cant catch at 6ft 7in, gave a pen away and never looked like he even tried to save any of the pens in the shoot out.
Agreed derbymiller as debut's go for keepers that was horrific. Still don't know how we lost that game, we had enough chances to win five games but going out might well be the blessing in disguise we all need but Warrington has some work to do on Blackman that's for sure.
As he gone yet Warney! Another transfer window he's * up. TS we are going nowhere with him as manager, rip that new contract up. Playing his mates again Jones S McDonald Vassell it's painful to watch. Of new signings on view yesterday only Sadlier looked anything like but think he'd be better playing in behind loan forward who we haven't got good enough.
Yes, Scarlett's brother has to be better than that! I'd be better than that!
Hopefully that was a one-off from Blackman, otherwise you have to wonder what the club saw in him...
GWRU , I'm sure that wasn't Warney's full 1st Choice 11 that started... my biggest worry is goal scorers. It was lack of taking chances that got us relegated last time.
Warney should have an easy conversation with the chairman after that performance, I just hope we can somehow find a decent striker from somewhere. I'm sure in the season, Smudge will get 10 or so, and maybe 12 to 15 from Ladapo... that's not going to be enough.
Enjoyed the game. It had the feel of a pre season friendly and that is about what it was in truth. In the cold light of day, we went to a decent league two side and drew over ninety minutes. We totally dominated the game. We weren't sharp enough in the final third to capitalise on our many opportunities and a howler by our keeper gifted them a goal. They didnt have a shot on goal from open play. There were positives. Harding looked good enough and Sadlier is clearly a good footballer. Shaun MacDonald did well. Ironically just before they scored we had enjoyed a twenty minute spell where we were all over them, moving the ball more quickly and playing some good football but without finding the net. On the negative side, Lindsay struggled to have any impact, Smith and Ladapo both gave the ball away really cheaply and obviously Blackman will be very disappointed with his performance. Not just the penalty, but he had about six crosses to deal with and looked very wobbly. He is a big unit, and he needs to be more commanding. It may just be a confidence issue but with a keeper you cant really wait for him to play himself into form. I'm sure they will be working hard with him to get him right. If he doesnt sort it quickly Johansson will get his chance. So Blackman is immediately under pressure which isnt ideal. All in all it is one game that didnt really matter and it was a useful exercise. Anybody who has got the time, have a look back to the reaction when we similarly dominated the first home league game last season against Lincoln and came out on the wrong side of the result. Supporters these days are so prone to massive over reactions. Ita a real head shaker, but it's the new normal.
smiler Harding reminds me of Crooks sloppy/clumsy. Only Ihiekwe out of the defence from yesterday is good enough for the championship. Lindsay needs game time to get him up to speed. S McDonald I can't see what he brings to the side. Up front nothing but if we don't get nobody in I'd go with Smith loan striker, got to play 3 in midfield. Warney lives in the land of make believe only thinks of Barlaser. He's saying he thought we could have got K Moore at cut price. That was never going to happen. I can't work out why we didn't get Vickers in goal. These two keepers we've got don't fill me with confidence.
You are entitled to your opinions gwru but to be honest with you I dont really respect them. You are too quick out of the traps, are too jaundiced and although you won't acknowledge it you have been shown to be wrong far more often than right. You keep posting your nonsense as long as you like and are allowed to, but I shan't be paying your posts much if any attention.
smiler doesn't worry me what you do. Rest of you carry on in this Warney make believe world. We're going nowhere in that. In fact we're worse off than last time in the championship, no Ajayi or Vaulks. No keeper as well this season. You get what you pay for we waste money on giving Price & Jones contracts instead of using that money to improve the squad.
Disagree about Lindsay I thought he had a decent game problem in midfield no decent holding player up to the manager to sort it out that is what he gets paid for forget about Barlaser take his picture of the office wall. We are no good without Smith up front we take our big lad off they put a big lad on different game. What can I say about the goalkeeping situation apart from the price is right.
Blackmans performance yesterday is a big worry for me. His flapping at crosses, poor decision making & poor distribution was concerning enough but his clear lack of communication with the back four is extremely worrying & it doesn't inspire confidence amongst the defence.
I'm not advocating a knee jerk reaction but it must be in Warnes mind to tell Warrington to get Johannsen up to speed for Saturday & to have a few words to Blackman as to what went wrong.
You know we're back competitively when you can enjoy TH MILLER & gwru spouting their respective BS, welcome back guys.
Glad to be appreciated been out this afternoon for a couple of shandys talking to the barmaid who watched the game her words we were sh***e I found it very hard to disagree warney sort it out for the weekend.
Was a shambles Saturday. Hope some players improve for the game but I can't work out why manager started with Wood & S McDonald who surely won't start at Wycombe. Both full backs looked dodgy. Right back unless Olosunde is fit, Thompson would be my next choice. I'd be looking now for a left back. Championship is more sophisticated than to be having Mattock taking corners ect... Also need a holding midfielder & big forward now. Got to have a competent keeper. My question we are still in the transfer window can we send Blackman back to his parent club? I'd keep with Lindsay out of our current midfielders my 1st choice. Miller back at Wycombe play him on the left, move Sadlier to attaching midfield. Smith loan forward unless we've brought anyone in.
We got Smith on a permanent. I hope Blackman turns out to be as good as 90% of the other players you've written off after one game. How are Akeem Hinds, Darnelle Bailey-King and Julien Lamy doing by the way?
