Football, when is it going to return?

I'm looking at it this way. The government say they are paying people to stop at home for 3 months that brings us to June 20th. Can't see football returning before then at least. Harry Kane says this season needs to be scrapped if it can't finish for the end of June there needs to be a point when enough is enough. I agree. Let's have next season to look forward to. Time out came for us at a good time we were floundering. We weren't ready for the championship. I've no problem with staying in league 1 starting the new season from scratch. Getting this coronavirus under control is more important.

Its true we were likely to struggle in the Championship. But had promotion been achieved, it serves to illustrate that we were/are potentially good enough to be there on merit.

So if the season is scrapped, as seems likely, it may well be a god send that allows us additional time to continue to build and strengthen, thereby giving us that extra bit of time to carry on the good work that might just give us that little bit of an edge to compete at the higher level. We shall see.

In short gwru, what I'm saying is I might just agree with you... a bit.

I would be surprised if football returned before end of June. The powers that be in football are saying that they will extend the current season indefinitely. They go on to say 'that the sporting integrity of the professional game makes it a necessity to finish this season before attentions are turned to the next one. This is the only way. We have to extend this season first'.

Now why do you think Harry Kane wants to scrap this season ? Could it be Tottenham are currently 8th and seven points off 4th place.. Also if we then went on last seasons positions Tottenham finished 4th and would get a European spot. Surely not the thoughts of squeaky clean Harry!!!

Why does Gwru want to scrap this season? We have floundered a place into 2nd, lets look forward to next season in Div1 , we are not ready for the championship and we can start from scratch. Why wouldn't we want to start from 2nd, a position you have earned over 30+ games. A club that has few debts, a good young side that can only get better and a much bigger amount of money waiting for promoted teams. The whole point of being in a league is to either win it or get promoted. The other option is to play friendlies. No i believe Gwru wouldn't be able to take it on the chin if we got promoted. Players like Jones, Wood, Mattock, Ihiekwe, Barlaser, Crooks, Ladapo, Vassell and others have all been given the hatchet job by him. Add to this that green tea drinking manager is a soft touch and Barker is out of his depth and i think he couldn't take the flack it would bring. Am i going mad, he would brush himself down and say if i had manged this team we would have won the league by 15 points because i would have brought back Lamy, Cooper, Kayode, Hinds and Bailey King. I would have sent back Iversen and played Bilboe. Getting this coronavirus is more important, on that one Gwru you are correct. Stay safe everybody.

whiston01 could you imagine that defence that started last game we played playing in the championship. Not one of them up to that standard. Only Ihiekwe & a fit Robertson are. Warney he's found his true vocation at last a delivery man cause he didn't deliver as a manager in the January transfer window. I'm not bothered who it favours or doesn't scrapping the season just get me back in my seat at the NYS when it's safe to do so. It's only a game football not life or death. This current season it's a busted flush now. Next season I'm interested in. If Warney can't sort it out get somebody in who can. Jones Price out of contract can go. Adelakun Koroma can be sent back to their parent clubs. Cooper Lamy Kayode can return. We might have seen the last of Iverson & Barlaser but they aren't our players.

Do you not think being second in the league in march was not sorting it out Gwru. Just a thought.

Every week that passes the prospect of finishing this season looks very unlikely with Wimbledon could be the next to be postponed. Does anyone think the government is going to give special dispensation to football with that game between a Spanish and Italian teams being traced back to being a super spreader of this virus. Scottish football is looking to this season going to be declared null and void already happened in the lower leagues. I can't see us playing again until it is safe. I can't wait for the next season tickets to come out never mind queuing at Morrisons for an hour to get in sooner stand in line outside the Red and White shop.

The one good thing to come out of this is what do a couple do when confined to barracks, apart from the obvious. We've done the obvious many times. So what do you do next. We used to be in a rather good Fleetwood Mac tribute band, until the management decided that rather than just having us, they could have five Fleetwood Mac tribute bands using the same name. At this point, we walked. We have been working on an acoustic Fleetwod Mac set. She does sound more like Stevie Nicks than Stevie Nicks does.

I'm excited by the project. Get the pubs open, and away we go. We aren't bad. I've been playing guitar since I was 11. I'm sort of getting the hang of it now.

Gold Dust Woman works particularly well. In fact, so does Rhiannon. Copious amounts of palm muting on guitar to add light and shade.

Peter Green has been cabbaged for several years, a victim of excesses over the years. The guy on the left in this video was hawking Peter Green around as some sort of freak show. A bullet is too good for him. From 2009.

As I said, I've been playing since I was 11 years old. Two things in my life, music and football, in no particular order.

Talk about going off post and I get called for doing it but I suppose it is ok for some to do it. Wasn't there a Fleetwood Mac tribute band in the green green grass of home what about Joey Barton doing a guest appearance. They were ok but when acts move to the good old USA for tax reasons no interest. Read this week about the work Roger Daltrey has done with the Teenage Cancer Trust. Still no Knighthood when you see some of the clowns and tax dodgers that get one. The Who easily one of the best groups that have ever been Live at their pomp no one better brilliant body of work and Quadraphina agreed with a lot of music critics the best piece of work written in last 50 years. Plus the fact no one could smash a guitar like Townsend.

Many players have stopped training. Some players have been exhibiting symptoms of the Covid19. Lots of players are not even match fit by now. How on God's Earth can this current football season be resumed? There is no room for complacency. This dreaded virus has not even reached its predicted peak. In the grand scheme of things, football and sport in general are a non-starter. It only takes one infected person to have the virus to start spreading it all over again to the people around them. This virus is unrelenting and unforgiving.

On a lighter note I understand that a CGI version of the Grand National is going to be run. However, there will be no betting on the race due to the vulnerability of the technology being used. 40 runners and riders. There will be no non-runners according to the organisers. Unless of course it's h!t by a computer virus and or hackers.

See you on the other side.

As far as cancelling this season waiting for the powers that be to make that decision. My main gripe against it is that it rewards failure teams in a relegation position will be happy about it. I have got my brain cell working got a little idea to redress the problem a bit. Next season deduct six points from every team in the league apart from the top two teams. Those in the playoffs lose three points. Points are already deducted off teams so it can be done we have had plenty over the years. At least it would be some kind of reward.

Don't over complicate things. Just be happy to start a new season as normal. Success to me will be getting life back to somehow what we are used to.

This virus is not going to go away any time soon. How many clubs will even be ready to start the season 2020-2021? Unless this current government starts wholesale testing of the population we will never know who has had or even got the virus. All bets are off until that happens. Like the parrot in the Monty Python sketch, this football season is not just resting, it's null, void and no more. Some of you will probably know the rest.

See you when we get back onside.
