Serious question for the EFL - what contingency plans do they have in place in the event of Coronavirus developing into a pandemic? With Italy restricting movement and public gatherings, it's probably only a matter of time before similar measures are introduced in UK. In which case, what will happen with the football season? Will it be declared null and void - restarting after the virus has cleared - neither Liverpool nor Rotherham would be happy. Would the season be declared finished at an early stage - might help us. Will games be played behind closed doors? So many questions to be addressed but with the EFL's record, I doubt they've even registered a potential problem.
Whatever happens, there's real potential that our great season may well have the gloss taken off it!
Use of face masks. Should we wear them when out in public?
There is some evidence that, when used correctly, face masks can slow the spread of airborne viruses. For example, one study from 2008 found that those who used a mask were 80% less likely to get the flu. Another 2009 report found that, in tandem with frequent hand-washing, face masks lowered people’s risk of getting the flu by about 70%. But the masks aren’t foolproof, and just because you’re wearing one does not mean you’re in the clear.
Because the virus is still somewhat of a mystery, many people — especially those in China, where the outbreak is centred — have started wearing face masks to protect themselves from getting sick. (There’s allegedly already a face mask shortage in some cities in Asia, and many Amazon sellers have sold out.)
Do's and don'ts
Do cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
Put used tissues in the bin immediately
Wash your hands with soap and water often – use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
Try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell. How do we know someone is unwell?
Don't do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
How many people will bother to follow the above advice? That's right. Very few. Looks like we're in for a tricky few months ahead.
Just had a thought. Will the club shop be stocking up and selling Millers face masks? Could it be a nice little earner or damp squib?

Face masks are just about sold out everywhere ,especially those of any quality ! Most come from China anyway so supplies from there aren't going to happen. Even my dentist can't get hold of any and is fast running out. We need to stay top just in case the season is curtailed, but if it is we'll all have other things to think about especially when 75% of deaths are rumoured to be men !!
I'm very surprised that neither TH nor GWRU has yet blamed the whole Pandemic on Warne... or stated that if we had kept JCH or played more of our second team players the virus would never have arrived in the first place....
When it comes to sporting events and music festivals, just wondering how many people will self isolate knowing that they have the coronavirus?
UEFA EURO 2020 starts on Friday 12 June
First game up is Turkey v Italy (21:00, Rome).
Then there is the Summer Olympic Games to consider running from 24 July to 9 August 2020 in Tokyo, Japan, with preliminary events in some sports beginning on 22 July.
Let's hope the coronavirus has been contained by the above dates.
I suspect that the whole thing has been blown up out of proportion. I would expect that more people died of the common or garden flu world wide this last 6months or so than those who have suc'c'umbed to this latest scare. We are subjected to regular scares, Sars, Swine Flu, Novovirus plus the one prevalent in Africa some years ago that in effect ate people alive, I forget the name of it. Its a regular thing usually followed by millions being pumped into the pharmaceutical industry to find a cure.
There is always something in the media for us to be afraid of; Isis, the Russians, Jeremy Corbyn, Brexit and Coronavirus. Two schools have been closed in my area, the nearest one just over a mile away as some of the kids have been to northern Italy skiing during half term. I'm crapping myself.........what if?
Lets face it, more people are killed in war every year. If you live in Gaza your'e fu.ked on a daily basis anyway. I bet they wish all they had to worry about was Coronavirus. There are more people killed or maimed on British roads yearly but we dont go into melt down and stop driving, just in case........you never know....
My view is, when my time is up, then my time is up, thats it. Something or other will whip us all away without compunction eventually, irrespective of age, creed or colour. As gwru would say, 'I only go on facts. Tell me different'
While there is something in what you say, one thing i have found out is that the Chinese biological warfare research centre is based in wuhan read into that what you want.
To me a couple of things standout
1)Italy they brought the bubonic plague to italy now the biggest proportion of the coronavirus deaths in europe
2) we have a good chance of a getting vaccine from the survivors
3) Most experts are saying that what concerns them is that it could subside and then come back in the autumn and mutated into something far more deadly.
on a light note they always say bad things come in threes
brexit tories in power to reap havoc and coronavirus
I had flu New Year's Eve ( that flu jab I had worked a treat ) still got to the match the next day. What a nation of snowflakes we have become. If I get it I am going to self isolate myself from millers banter for 2 weeks.
How many of us wash our hands for the suggested 20 seconds before drying them? How many of us shake hands with our mates at sporting events? I reckon we ought to play the game and follow the advice given by the health authorities. After all, who wants to be sat at home for days on end without being able to go out? What happens if some of our sporting events, including football , become hard hit by influenza or coronavirus? How many will self isolate if they believe that they have caught the coronavirus? Some will still turn out to watch their favourite football team regardless. Selfishness will rear its ugly head. 'Begger the rest of the unsuspecting population', some might say.
Some people will be lucky they will get paid for being off the ones that don't will go to work it is not a case of being selfish bills have to be paid. When I have had bad colds flu I have gone to work it is a bit of an incentive with no wage coming in at the end of the week.

And there we have it. You go in sick to get paid, but in doing so make every other beggar sick so they might not be able to get paid. Or worse. There are lives at stake here. You only need a small percentage of people among the general population ignoring advice, and everyone else is knackered.
The government is trying desperately to keep this at bay until better weather arrives and the season for ordinary flu passes. The NHS is already creaking without Covid-19 adding to the problem. I am sure they would like to keep it at bay until they can develop a vaccine, but that looks a long way off.
This looks a very serious situation to me. It appears to be spiralling out of control internationally, and the world being the small place it is these days we won't be able to resist it indefinitely.
To much panic over this situation all I am trying to say some people haven't got the luxury of being able to have the time off. What about them on zero hours contracts there will be no job to go back to and no dole money for a long while.
That's the reality of it and we can't lose sight of the fact some people don't have a lot of savings or any cushion so without their wages they would lose their home and stuff. Not saying you should ignore advice but the government needs to step in and help people if they can't work for 2 weeks etc. They stepped in and helped the bankers with billions so they should pay people's basic salary for any period not covered under a contract of work. Or if not people will obviously do what protects their own.
If this virus gets a lot worse there could be the possibility of playing some matches behind closed doors. People's health comes first football does not even get on that list. Is there any point in even playing those games.
Avoid rumours is the first thing the who publish the statistics regularly and it isn't 75% male deaths. The vast majority of deaths are the over 60's and people that already have a chronic disease. The death rate is below 2% of confirmed cases. The issue for the west is our politicians scared of media pressure to put liberal left human rights before their primary job of protecting the people. In China they are starting to see it being put under control because they are a totalitarian state, Russia will behave the same. We need to be prepared to take strong action when it is needed.
I don't see much if any evidence of any liberal left pressure that would hinder action or preparations. I think that everyone recognises that extraordinary situations call for extraordinary responses. In the UK and USA, politicians that might be termed 'liberal' have called for swifter action than has been taken. I am no fan of our current government, but I think their statements are honest, candid, sensible and proportionate and I applaud them for that. This crisis will be best dealt with if politics are set aside and the advice of the experts Is followed.
For the politicans its votes that count and the looking at the post electorate information on who voted for whom it seems the vast majority of the over 50's voted tory. This is the ages range most at risk from the virus.
So if if does become more wide spread watch the govt move heaven and earth to protect their voting block
