Accrington - Team, Score, Thoughts

Iverson, Mattock, Wood, Icky, Thompson Ogbene, Crooks, Barlaser, Adelukin Ladapo, Vassel (Smith 70). This is one we have to win and I think we will. 3-0. Ladapo (2) and Smith.

Iversen; Olosunde Ihiekwe Wood Mattock; Lindsay Barlaser Crooks Ogbene; Smith Ladapo. As long as we win all that matters.

I thought that playing your boys rather than Warneys "happy families" was far more important than winning, which seems to be a regular occurrence this season. Incidentally, management techniques in football, and the steelworks, have moved on somewhat since your days of whip and chair management.

We'll fail playing same side as Saturday that I'm certain.

Fail by end of the season meant.

The surface at Accrington is tough to play on and nothing like the standard we're used to at NYS. I therefore don't think it's going to be a game for silky skills and I would therefore leave Adelakun on the bench. For me, same team as we started with against Wimbledon but with Lindsay in for Adelakun. The uneven surface might suit Vassell's bullish style rather than Ladapo's close control. But wouldn't lose any sleep if either accompanied Smith up front.

If Mattock is fit he is still our best left back and he would.play there instead of Wiles for me. That is the only change I would make from Saturday. There wasnt much wrong on Saturday. If you have twenty five attempts on goal to the oppositions five every time you play, you will win eight or nine games out of ten. No need for wholesale change.

Out of top six, we probably have the toughest fixture on Saturday along with Pompey who are at Fleetwood. Accies are on a 3 game winning streak albeit against lower opposition. If results go to form, would expect Coventry, Sunderland and Wycombe to pick up 3 points but I suspect Posh may struggle at Burton. It could all be really close at the top of the League come 5pm on Saturday but, with Rotherham's impressive away form, I reckon this is one we could nick and maintain our top spot.

Not to forget, BRING IT ON YOU REDS TONIGHT! My kids and I are Rotherham first and Liverpool second. Some, if not most, will not understand.

Forgot about Wiles. Agree Mattock at LB.

agree except I'd give Freddie a start. I like Vassell , but I think Freddie would have taken chances in the first half that Smith and Vassell missed against Wimbledon, that would have won us the game...

Wiles is a great player, but he is NOT a full back..

Alternative would be Vassell wide instead of Aldelaken (not convinced with him at all yet) so have all 3 strikers and take it to them...

Nice problems to have this season though, whereas last season it was hard to pick any 11....

Totally agree about the points made about adelakun and wiles. But I think ladapo is more clinical out of him and vassell he gets the nod for me So Thompson ikky wood mattock Ogbene crooks Barlaser wiles or kiwoma Smith Ladapo

January transfer window was a non-event. Adelakun waste of a wage. Koroma only hope if we can get him match fit. Tilt I said at the time no way would I give a 3 1/2 yr contract to a player of his age who wasn't starting for Blackpool so there must have been something fitness wise not right. Can only shuffle the pack at the moment regards team selection try not to play players out of position.

 Absolutely.

In gwru's world you only buy players who will improve the team tomorrow.  In the case of short-term loans there is always a an issue about whether players will be fit enough to contribute within the loan period.  In Adelukan's case he has come straight in and played.  He has had some good games and some not so good but he is contributing.  Koroma is easing his way in.  He has only been here two minutes and there are thirteen games left.  In Tilt's case, he was frozen out at Blackpool because he refused a new contract offer of course he wasn't match fit when we bought him, but the fact he has a long-term contract speaks volumes.  He is here to improve us for the next three seasons.

Personally I would prefer not to use loan players as it panders to short-termism, but I understand the pressures and how it can be a useful device.

Tilt is yet another player written off by gwru before he has even kicked a ball for us.  The same applies with Trevor Clarke and Julien Lamy - when we got them in Warne was very clear that they were 'ones for the future' and in Lamy's case 'a bit of a gamble'.  Investment in the future.  Raw ability that they think they can work on over time.  The same as Ihiekwe, who came from non-league football a bit rough round the edges and had his ups and downs (also written off by gwru) but is now a diamond worth plenty on the market if anybody else wanted him.

Ihiekwe he's only 26 so now a valuable asset to us. You've got to admit 2 years ago in the play-offs he looked dodgy but he's come good. I admit when I get it wrong but Tilt will be 29 start of next season with 3 years left on his contract. Not a good risk to me. Why do we get players on loan in January who haven't played 1st team football since who knows when? Thought we had a recruitment team can't we get a match fit winger good enough from the league 1 or 2?

So Tilt is two years older than Ihiekwe (not Ihiewke) but you use the old he'll be whatever age next, thereby adding a year on. Why not say Tilt is 28 and Ihiekwe 27 next? But of course, that wouldn't suit your rather odd agenda.
