Their home record is good - w9 d1 l3. Theyve lost both their most potent strikers in the transfer window, and seem to be looking over their shoulder more than at the teams above them. Big incentive for us is that a win would take us 6 points clear at the top overnight. We owe them one for beating us at home very early in the season. That feels like a distant memory now!
On paper this ought to be a victory for us but football being football it's rare to be able to make an accurate prediction. They beat us at home and for that reason alone revenge and professionalism of the players should count for something. That said, we're at at the top and in everyones sights, there to be knocked off. Lincoln will be up for it and in some cases it's almost like an extra man. My head says this may be a 1-1, my heart says 2-1 to the Millers.
The Millers seek revenge on Friday night at Lincoln. A lot has changed at Lincoln since they beat us 2-0. I think it's fair to say they are in a transitional period. The biggest change was on 9th September when the Cowley brothers left to manage Huddersfield.
Only five of the team that started at NYS in August started the game at Southend on Saturday. Bostwick is injured and possibly needs another two weeks before he is ready. Walker(top scorer) has returned to Forest. Toffolo has gone to Huddersfield. O'Connor has gone to Salford. Akinde who came on as sub has also moved on to Gillingham.
They signed Max Melbourne a left back just after we played them, making the move permanent in January. Hinds has been signed as cover for him. They have signed Liam Bridcutt who is a decent holding midfield player, T.J Eyoma a young defender on loan from Tottenham, a teenage striker called John-Jules on loan from Arsenal and signed Hopper another striker on a permanent deal from Southend.
Lincoln's form in 2020 has been up and down with 3 wins, 1 draw and four losses. I believe they have lost their last three games and Morrell, possibly their best player who is on loan from Bristol C, said the performance at Southend was way below the acceptable level.
This is a game that appears to be coming at the right time for us. A side with new faces in it, loss of better players and poor recent results. If we can get anywhere near the Ipswich level we should come away with three points. It looks like there will be changes for us. Not the wholesale changes some will want but some. Mattock will be given a break i believe as he appears to have played most of the season with some sort of injury. I also felt two games in a week was difficult for, Vassell,Thompson and Adelakun, all three had either missed games or had recent injuries. Warne will now assess fitness this week and pick his strongest and freshest line up.
The suggestion that we 'got away with one' on Saturday made me check the stats for the game at home to Lincoln. We lost 2-0. Possession was 58%/42% in our favour. We had 15 efforts on goal to their 3. I remember their keeper making two or three outstanding saves, most memorably low to his right from a Ladapo header. One of their two goals was a freak own goal. Perhaps we can trade off - give Burton the 3 points from Saturday but get them back from Lincoln in lieu of that earlier result? Funnily enough though, whereas a few are quick to suggest that we were lucky to beat Burton I seem to recall that the same few didnt think we were unlucy to lose to Lincoln. They just wanted Warne's head on a platter. Funny how that works. Anyway, we owe them one that's for sure.
The fans here in Lincoln do not hold out much hope for Friday night. They've lost their last 3 to Ipswich, Portsmouth and Southend. Their two victories before that were against 2 of the League's weaker sides; Bolton and Blackpool. Saturday's loss to lowly Southend was a real low point. I trust we will put in a better shift than the 3-0 defeat in the EFL cup back in November. Akinde terrorised our defence that night but, as has been said already, he's moved on. A comfortable win would be most welcome and would restore bragging rights in my local!
Probably just a fitness thing I think. He didnt start for Blackpool since before Christmas. They left him out because he was after a move. Weve had the option of moving Thompson across in case of injury to a centre back during the last two games, with Olosunde on the bench.
Tilt wouldn't have been on the bench cause would have meant leaving one of Warney's boys Clarke or McDonald off it. Reading MM match thoughts of people who've been saying same as me another one of his boys Wiles he's never a left back. Also same as I thought after last week Thompson not a right back. I don't know what Olosunde he's done wrong. I can't stand favouritism. Pick a side on merit not players out of position. If we are going to go up let's go up looking like a side who deserve to.
Another decent thread ruined by the curious rantings of our resident Wednesday fan. Strange to claim that MM posters are saying the same as you. From what I've read, they consider you an irritant and a target for ridicule?
Doesn't worry me keep saying it. I'm from the Rotherham area. Rotherham United have always been my team. Just a few on MM take offence to my posts but abit brainwashed Warney boys like some on here. I'll be proved right favoritism never works. Want us to go up to show that.
