Today's win

Rare for me to start a new thread but that was a game we needed to get over the line. Thought we were lucky to go in at half time at 1-1. They proved to be the tough cookies we expected them to be and at HT I'd have been happy with a point. Never been a Mattock fan and today he was off pace they ran him ragged, even Wood looked a bit off too, towd lad. A better start to the 2nd half and relieved when Smith put us in front but they squared up almost immediately. Warne made the changes needed and changed the game in our favour.

Not a good day for the old ticker with the backwards and forwards the game went but up pops up Freddie, right place, right time.

A close run thing with more toughies to come but at three points clear.....we're still top.

Warney was very lucky boy today how we won I don't know when you are at the top of the league you get the breaks Full credit to Burton Quinn best player on the pitch I can remember Warnock lending him to us. Nigel Clough also is a very good manager how they missed that chance before we went 3-2 up you know when you're luck is in. A win is a win move on to the next match.

One question would you sign Adelakun? I definitely wouldn't. What's Lindsay done wrong? Warney will put anybody on bar him. Game we won, take that.

Totally agree about mattock, was at fault for 2nd goal out of position , yet first name barring injury on team sheet.

Anyone have any thoughts on that back pass which their keeper caught in the 6 yard box and the Ref gave a corner? I don't think I've seen a stranger decision but, just in case I saw it completely wrong, can anyone confirm whether or not my eyes were deceiving me?

I'd agree based on last two games... I think he has some quality but not sure about putting a shift in and overall ability. Certainly tends to do too much when he has the ball instead of passing...

But then again I thought that about Barlaser, who himself didn't have a great game today, but in last 6 games or so has been immense..

So on balance GWRU, I'd think we should give him a few more games before we decide, he's only on loan so no harm done anyway...

Great 3 points but if I was a Burton fan I'd be gutted we didn't get a point (but do I care, no biggrinbiggrin)

UTM..

Gwru - you ask what Lindsay has done wrong. I asked you on a previous thread what toll his recent personal crisis had taken out of him. You failed to answer which suggests you don't know. Can't you just accept that PW does know and that his decision whether to play him or not is based on an intimate knowledge of Lindsay ' s mental state?

GlennMiller point taken: Lindsay. Ref today didn't look up to it. At least he wasn't card happy. Game happy to get 3pts. I just want us to go into games with the best chance of getting something out of them. Next Friday same.

Also, two unsung heros today... Iversen... there was a spell in the first half where he pulled off 3 really good saves that otherwise could have cost us the points. second one is Wiles, came on and got stuck in... highlight was when we lost the ball in their half when he was deep on their right, he chased back and won the ball back, and the following peice of play saw us get the winner...

We have a great team mentality at the moment, I can't remember a Millers team so up for it and giving so much in every game. it's great to watch....

We were second best for long periods today. Burton were good. I thought Quinn was the best player on the pitch. We seemed to lack the spark that was there against Ipswich. We wont play well every week, but it was entertaining, we have a will to win and we got the points.

Below par performance against a good team, great result. Crooks is a wonderful player so calm on the ball brings a touch of quality to the game. Two players that need comment Vas he doesn't work hard enough he will not chase down and Mattock what a clown he has to be carrying an injury to excuse that display. All the other three defenders got him out of crap more than once today, even Wiles as a young kid was ranting at him to be in better positions to receive the ball and to cover, worst defender at the club. We have some real talent at the club and the post match interviews were honest and good as well. UTM

Special word for Freddie 'he will never win you a game' Ladapo. His.goal won us the game and what a strike it was.

I'd love to know why the officials didn't give an indirect free kick for their keeper catching the back pass. They must know that it is an offence to do so. Presumably they thought either that it wasn't a back pass (unbelievable) or that the ball had already gone out before he caught it (equally unbelievable - he was three yards into the field of play). Definitely one of the most baffling decisions I have ever seen.

Mattoch is our best left back apart from our goalkeeper all of the back 4 looked a bit wobbly they were the better team just seen extended highlights how we won no idea.

Mattock is our only natural left back but he's not had a good season. Olosunde looks better there than at right back he's get that shirt for me. Burton they've got Quinn, we've got Mcdonald. I know who I'd sooner have but don't think Warney would want Quinn here. Don't think he's fit in with Warney's ideas how it should be. Quinn he's no problem just he's played at a good level would know what's required.

On reflection that was a decent game and Burton played very well. Good to see how clinical we were and all the goals were really well taken especially Ladapo’s.

Totally agree Smiler, the highlights show the facts and the referee was simply unable to apply the basic rules of the game.

I'd like an apology from him at the very least, better still a fine, I'm fed up with the shocking level of incompetence that the officials in most games show, not biased, simply terrible in ability.

But nothing is ever done. I've never subscribed to the 'evens itself out over a season'... a few points can make the difference between promotion or relegation... depending on which end of the table you are.

The good news is we are winning DESPITE these bad refs at the moment, which is a good sign… although the pen at Peterborough would have given us the point we should have had, and taken 2 off a rival team

I can’t believe the determination of some people to be negative! Burton were the best side to visit NYS for some time and they set up very well and deserved the close game and to score two goals! However all this talk of Warney being lucky and “no idea how we won the game” is rubbish! We won the game because we ultimately out battled them, never gave up and created and converted more goals than them! Possession and creating chances are only part of the game! Taking those chances and making good saves at the other end is not down to good luck! Good heavens we are 3 points clear at top of the league with the best goal difference and most wins!!

Sometimes you have to grind out a win and we did. PW not happy with himself mainly for not resting more players. I thought we rode our luck a bit but still had the edge to deserve the win - just. Burton will be a tough team to play for our rivals too so glad we got 3 points off them. Crooks is a great player can't understand the criticism of him on here; clear to see how good when you saw our Peterborough and Ipswich games. Anyway, don't you know? Pump it up, the reds are going up... 😃
