There are many polarised views about our current manager and the coaching staff currently covering topics such as
Player acquisition
Matchday player choice
Team formation
Tactics before and during the match
The use of substitutes during a match
Post-match analysis
Paul Warne obviously didn't get all the proceeds from the transfers of Vaulks and Semi, but with the transfer record of the club broken to buy ladapo and going back in with improved bids to secure Clark, Lindsey and Ogbene. my question is did he get the right players to add to the squad to create a team to play his preferred new formation of 4 3 3. my answer is no he didn't.
Due to the formation of 4 3 3 not working with the players he had. He has reverted to playing one up front, playing 4 1 4 1 in defence to 4 4 1 1 in attack. This is producing mixed results, to say the least not helped by player inconsistently.
His choice of wiles as the player for corners and free-kicks isnt working. we are terrible and also when the opposition has a corner all the team are defending we have no player left up for any counter-attack.
He either does like for like substitutions or leaves it too late to change the game.
His post-match analysis seems devoid of what to do. It's sad because of his history with the club but he seems out his depth, from his comments about good character etc, these are laudable and good but to me an indication of a lack of man-management skills. In a management role, you have to manage many personalities.
To me, it seems he is out of his depth and unless performance and results change I see us in relegation trouble to stop this we will need a change of management and direction.
but the choice is not ours we can only give our opinion varied and polarised but all are valid opinions
We are far too cautious in our approach. It’s working for away matches because the focus isn’t on us to take the game to sides.
At home we are boring, predictable and it’s really worrying how there seems to be a lack of a plan B when teams inevitably sit in then get a goal to capitalise on our slow pace of play.
I’ve said previously I’d make a change, people are paying to be entertained at NYS and I can’t remember home games being as bad as this since we moved back to Rotherham. We’ve no divine right to win games at any level home or away but people at least want to show some intent and a bit of flair.
I was calling for the change to be made last spring the present manager has run his race. See who we are facing at the weekend I fear the worst we have no Idea what we are doing on the pitch. If we do lose that would rub salt into the wound.
C I've basically said same on change needed thread. I said before it happened never play full backs as wingers. Olosunde whose been one our better signings at full back hope his confidence hasn't been shot playing him more forward. Gerry Forest best right back we've had in my time watching us only ever saw him play right back.
I agree with C, football is an entertainment industry & certainly for the last two weekends we have not been entertained but is a change of management & coaching staff the answer?
We're still in the top half of the table & still within touching distance of the playoffs, have 21 points & one of the best away records in the division. Knee jerk reaction springs to mind.
My main worry is the dressing room camaraderie that has been lauded by our coaching staff has been strikingly lacking in both the Oxford & Wycombe games as has the fight & battling qualities we are known for. There doesn't seem to be any in game communication from the players during games, as has been mentioned we are slow, ponderous & unbelievably predictable at home. Warne, Hamshaw, Barker & Pollitt should be issuing *******ings rather than cuddles as we need to instil a mean streak to our play.
If our home form doesn't improve & our fine away record tails off & we end up fighting the drop then & only then Tony will have a decision to make but RUFC must have some of the most fickle fans in the entire league with an annoying sense of entitlement. We are not Wednesday. We're a third division club, FFS deal with it!!!
Lets not forget fellas, Warne didn't want the job to begin with. TS was looking for someone who had the Millers at heart after the Jackett fiasco and he (Warne) may have had his arm twisted to take it; who knows. But the bottom line was he was already here, and as many said at the time, was a cheap option, and no, he didn't have to take it. But there must have been a good wage increase and like the rest of us, he has to pay the bills and mortgage. Worth giving it a go? I should say so.
So he's bounced into a job he hadn't considered, in the Championship fighting a rearguard that was, to all intents and purposes already lost, with no managerial experience, the result of which, in my view, was already predetermined but in many peoples eyes, was his fault. (a couple of names spring to the fore)
The following season a super win at Wembley and back up to the Championship first time of asking. I would argue that our short tenure was not entirely Warne's fault. How much did he have to spend? Nothing happened during the January transfer window which could have stablised the situation, why was that. Who was giving him advice re signings, target signings preferring to go to other clubs leaving us with Hobson's choice to freshen things up. Not an ideal situation to survive in the Championship.
Now this season. End of October and we are mid table but with some very inconsistent performances. One day smashing the top of the League the next flopping hopelessly infront of the home crowd. Again lets consider his budget did he have the resources to land his 1st choices, who was advising him on these choices. He had to sell off his two best players for starters. Is his coaching staff and number 2 up to scratch, whats going on behind the scenes. Are the players taking the mick, accepting the money but not putting in the right effort. Who knows? I don't.
I'm not here to defend the manager or the support staff. The results speak for themselves and I am just as disappointed as everyone else. But who else could do a better job under the cir***stances to begin with and further more which manager would want to come here with the right qualities to to do what we would all like to see. Warnock wouldn't stay, even in an advisory role, Jackett was quick to put his coat on when he saw the truth of it. You pays your money and you make the choice. I was hoping for a new era when we moved to NYS I like many others thought we were seeing the regeneration of the club, nurturing and bringing on young players and becoming a community club. Thus far I have seen very little. Its the same old RUFC in a posh house. But the manager is the manager he has to carry the can, but I would say we need to look further back to find the source of the failings these last five years, and look beyond Warne's tenure.
