Coventry game

Possibly a pivotal game for the Warne/Barker management team. There's certainly a rot that wants stopping not least of which our apparent lack of goals (barring Bolton but it was like kicking a puppy), surprising seeing as we have so many forwards at the club.

Cov fans seem very confident...….

Brad football is such a simple game. If you can take out what's not working. We haven't got midfield right or up front. Is Barlaser not fully fit? Sure he was brought in to be the holding midfield player. 5 across the middle way to go. Lamy on the right. Smudger lone striker.

Scoring goals is our problem at the moment. Take away the six against a poor Bolton and we have only managed to hit the net six other times in the league. Gwru says midfield and up front is not right. I think that is a fair comment. However, is playing five across the middle and one up top the answer? Not sure it is. Last season in the championship we scored 52 goals in 46 games playing 4.5.1 in over 40 of them. People were shouting loudly that one striker is not enough.

I think Gwru would play Lamy, Barlaser, Lindsay ,Wiles and Hastie with smith the lone striker. This is the strike rate of that six
Lamy- still to feature so hasn't scored a league goal
Barlaser - 1 goal in 49 league games.
Wiles - 2 goals in 32 league games.
Lindsay -8 goals in 122 (Poor Scottish leagues)
Smith - 14 goals in 74 league games for us . His record elsewhere is on a par or even worse.
Hastie -12 goals in 74 games (he has scored 3 in 5 for us).

I have indicated before that our strikers are not natural finishers apart from the one season Ladapo had for Plymouth. If we play two wide men then they have to get up to support Smith and it puts a bit of pressure on in the middle of the park. No easy answers to to our current problems. I still think 4.2.3.1 is the best option in most leagues. Our problem is we haven't got the two holding midfielders that are good enough. We could try Lindsay and Macdonald but up to just MacDonald has not impressed me. He still has time. I thought Jones might have done ok in the holding role with Lindsay but he looked way off his game last Saturday. I expect Warne to go 4.4.2 on Saturday but what the personnel will be, i have no idea. I do not expect Coventry to come and play attacking football, so it might be another dour battle. We need to get used to that at home in this league.

whiston01 problem is McDonald was brought in to be the holding midfielder but he's gone. Bad signing. That's why we need 3 central midfielders. Barlaser & Lindsay with either Wiles or Crooks. Hoping Lamy is ready to come in on the right. I don't rate Ladapo or Morris, Vassell same. Smith was good enough lone striker in the championship, must be in this league. Olosunde to return at right back. Have Hinds on the bench at least. Mattock needs a wake up call.

Michael smith played the lone striker well in the championship and battled hard to hold the ball up, win the ball in the air and generally be a handful to central defenders. However, you know what is problem is . He played 45 times last season and only scored 8 times. That sort of return will not get us in the top six. Take away the goals of Ajayi and Vaulks and it doesn't take a genius to see why we might just struggle a bit to score goals this season.

whiston01 you've won we'll go 4-4-2. With Olosunde on the right he can get forward but have Lindsay to help him out. Iversen; Olosunde Ihiekwe Robertson Mattock or Hinds; Lindsay Barlaser Wiles or Crooks Hastie; Smith Ladapo. Lamy 1st change.

If we lose on Saturday we will have to send Warney to Coventry. I think we will win I was certain we had no chance of winning against Bristol there are some places we don't get nowt that is the way football is. We need cheering up come on Warney turn our frowns upside down.

Hillsborough just think Mattock could have had his head turned. Millwall were said to interested in him last transfer window. He doesn't seem focused. Hinds if he's ready get him in.

Agree we need cheering up TH...   and also that some teams, despite logic, seem to be bogey teams you can't win against.

I feel the worst against Coventry unless Warne finds a way to get this team creating chances... (Maybe Ogbene will help, and have two wingers,  if he's back, no sure he's ready yet)

I started this season full of hope after some good signings, but It's getting to the stage where we are frustrating to watch...

I'm going to the Blackpool game week after, I'm hoping for the same sort of miracle we had in 2017/18 season, where after the second half at Blackpool, our season turned around...

Coventry are unbeaten and it won't be an easy game. Should be a good crowd. After a week working away I am very much looking forward to this one. Midfield is where the selection dilemmas are.

I know rumour has it that Mark Robins isn't on Tony Stewart's Christmas Card list, but I have a lot of time for what he did for us as a Manager against the odds when we were in a very bad place. He was also right up there as one of the best finishers I have seen in a Millers shirt.

Looks like the team will be picking itself then? Unless PW is playing mind games with MR? I'm sure it will be an unusually entertaining game. The result of the match is so unpredictable. In a perverse way that adds some excitement to what would otherwise be a dull afternoon at the NYS.

What worries me it's our recruitment midfield & up front. How do Peterborough keep finding them. Ivan Toney cost bout £150,000 more than Ladapo but they've got a live one. Warney in the tizer today on about Vassell his pace. I've never seen it or anything I can remember he's brought to us. Midfield apart from Lindsay unless Barlaser not been fully fit we have no strength. McDonald was a shocking signing. Barker there's no question if both fit Olosunde everytime 1st choice at right back. Jones back up but next summer get shut. Warney on about he might bring Lamy on late in the game. If he's ready why not start him. I can't see nobody fit for Saturday who can play wide right. Mattock needs to show he's up for it for Roth U before he gets a new contract. I haven't seen he his so far this season. Another thing from tizer today Warney he's saying Jones & Mcdonald are really good people helping the young players. Thought that what coaches are paid for. I want players under contract who can do the job they are paid for on the pitch.

Important game for a lot of reasons, not there today in germany for family event, I really hope we win. The players need a result against a good team, the manager needs it before his depression gets any worse, the chairman deserves a performance for the support he has given warne and the fans deserve to be entertained and see players really try, not the warne definition of trying. I've said all season 4-5-1 the only way we can play. Smith showed he's the best striker at the club. Don't know why he brought Wood back, no mileage in that. Still can't see a holding midfielder at the club. How bad were Coventry especially at the back. Mattock played alot better. Ihiewke pick at the back, Lindsay in midfield. Smudger I've said lone striker he's at home there, took his pen's well.
