Sunderland Away

I think everyone agrees that Sunderland are likely to be in the top three or four come the end of the season.  They have some players who are top quality by league one standards and will be roared on by a big crowd.  They have drawn a lot of home games though during their spell in this division and their supporters can be a bit quick to turn on the side if they don't start well.

A point would be a good point but I for one think that a win is a real possibility.  None of the three possible results would be a great surprise.

I don't see any reason to make any changes to the line up that started on Saturday.

Sunderland is a great stadium to visit and they are expecting over 30,000 in there tonight.  Looking forward to this one enormously.

As you say three results possible. Don't know if Sunderland have improved this season not seen them. Last season they didn't look anything sparkling. Lack of some steel for us in midfield worries me if they are any good. I'd have Barlaser in for Crooks. Being a Newcastle player he'll want to play & do well.

Same team tonight as I expected I would have gone for Mcdonald only holding midfield player we have got but it is a chance to see how good we are at this stage of the season.

Great result but Morris injured again hope it isnt too serious. A lot of praise to the management and players tonight, on to saturday now we need a good win to get in the top half.

Brilliant away point. If people are looking for an indication of our status in this League, tonight is a very good pointer.

Good point. Haven't been but lack of a holding midfield good enough now will make it harder to make inroads into the higher reaches of league 1. Keep in touch while January then see what we need. But happy with point. Bring on Shrewsbury who were in the goals tonight when winning as well as conceding one less.

Great point especially since we were playing against a poor ref as well. We had two very good penalty appeals turned away.

Hopefully we are starting to click now.

Just back. Totally shagged. Over 50s... Perhaps time to hang the car keys up for long Tuesday night trips. Game of 2 halves. Annoyed at yet another gift but from 35 minutes I thought we were the better team
Heart in mouth at subs but survived. Good result. The kind that keeps us viable.

We were all over the show defensively for the first half an hour but always looked like we had goals in us. Second half we looked very strong and bossed it. Over the 90 minutes I thought we were the better side although a point was about right.

C is right about the ref. The handball in the first half was as clear cut as a penalty gets, and the foul on Morris also looked a very strong case. In the second half the ref blew to stop play because of a Sunderland man down in the box just as Wiles let a shot go that went in (they used that tactic a lot to buy time to get organised), and one of their defenders already on a yellow card hacked Morris down as he broke down the left - free kick given but inexplicably no second yellow. I know it is a difficult job but all night long we got the wrong side of all the major decisions.

Off to bed now.

Just watched extended highlights their goal from when camera caught up with play looked offside. Hastie if he'd have gone down when their keeper made contact in their area would have been our best chance of a pen'. Didn't Hastie take his goal well. On chances shown a fair result a draw.

Ref deffo seemed to be suffering from home team bias. Probably cant and shouldnt do anything else but try and stay on your feet as JK did. I mean if you start diving it is just another wrong in our society and it probably wont help ones game mentally too.

I can understand why the ref didnt pull the second yellow out. If Im honest I dont like to see players sent off for two yellows. It seems to me to often be (not always) unjustified but if there is more than one while on a yellow then im OK with that but like to see players get that second chance once on a yellow.

The result was a good one of course but Sunderland despite their status arent doing so great at present. So, Im just trying to keep it real and feet where they should be. Still looking at that 6th berth as our best finish.

I was more pleased with PWs interview. More balanced and positive and stronger than usual I thought.

Agree about the interview with Warne. I was pleased he said he got into them at half time for the poor start. Won’t do the players any harm being kept on their toes.

If hastie went down after he rounded the keeper even with contact I’ve no doubt the ref would have booked him for diving.

I have only seen highlights the saves Iverson made kept us in the game. From the first time I saw him warming up in the 1st friendly I could see he was going to be a great signing.
