A couple of standout results. Burton won 4-2 at Oxford which might put our win at Burton into context. Lincoln lost 2-1 at MK Dons. Much fancied Portsmouth haven't started great. They drew 3-3 at home after being 3-2 up against 9 men. Jackett will be under pressure unless he gets them moving. Early days but we arent badly placed - win the game in hand and we would be third or fourth and a point off the top. Barnsley lost 2-0 at Luton and are finding it tough after winning their opener. Luton also having a difficult start.
Portsmouth were cruising this division last season until the latter 3rd. Their record over the last 15 games must be abysmal and I don't think the Pompey public and hierarchy will put up with Jackett for much longer if they don't improve - couldn't happen to a nicer guy!
The Burton result last night, as with Lincoln's result following their visit to NYS, underpins the quality of RUFC. The opinion that I take seriously, alongside those who attend the games, are the ex-professionals. The praise that Richard Wood attracted on the Quest Football programme was nothing short of sensational.
Although it's early days, our main challengers for promotion this season are all up there I reckon.
I'm positive but praise Wood got on quest what's it based on? Warney is on about new CB he's 4'th choice. If he's not better than Wood then I'm at a loss.
From the Yorkshire Post
TEAM OF THE WEEK: Spoilt for choice as we select from Sheffield United, Barnsley, Bradford City, Doncaster Rovers, Hull City, Huddersfield Town, Leeds United, Middlesbrough, Rotherham United and Sheffield Wednesday
Richard Wood (Rotherham United)
Back to his forceful and belligerent best, with his defensive organisation and relish for the battle being a sight to behold at Burton
Clearly professional journalists, as well as Paul Warne don't see "the full picture" as you do gwru.
TC got to pick one from each side. I told a professional journalist April this year at the New York Warney sack him. We'll never progress under him. We won't. We could go up this season but we won't stop there. Until he keeps us up Evans will always be in front of him as a manager while he was at Roth U.
TC don't listen to those two. Ronnie he's done it but failed eventually. Warney took over in the Championship but given another chance couldn't keep us there.
I take it that you understand that, metaphorically stamping your feet on here, will affect absolutely nothing in the real world. Or are you on a mission to drive everyone away from this forum, as you were doing on Millersmad before you were awarded a sine die ban.
I read Millers Banter a lot - I enjoy reading the reasoned posts, snippets of inside information and reports from away games! I’d rather be positive and optimistic rather than continually looking to post in a negative way!
I’m realistic - it’s not all perfect and we do need a plan b to change the course of a game! But I’m convinced that Warney is good for us and deserves much more credit than he gets from some directions!
Same with Woody - he’s not our long term answer - but cometh the hour cometh the man and we did need a dose of his muck or nettles attitude at the current time as an example to others! And as for 4-3-3 - it’s not perfect either as Warney knows but does it have to be brought into every post?
So maybe it’s worth sometimes thinking - perhaps sometimes even the best of us can get out of step and give that particular point a rest!
60 years A Miller! UTM!
