Trying to do my bit for the speedway club. They've been around for many years. My dad used to take me to Owlerton when I was a kid and see some of the Tigers greats like Reg Wilson and Doug Wyer race against the likes of Ivan Mauger and Peter Collins.
They are still racing at Owlerton and I've taken my own children a few times recently. The noise and smell of the speedway triggers all sorts of nostalgia. The stadium has seen better days but the action is still good. These boys travel at high speed and put their bodies on the line for a living.
Sheffield currently have Danny King as their number one - he was British Champion in 2016 and it is worth going just to see him. He is a class act.
Sadly the club is struggling to make ends meet and although the current owners say that they are only looking for investment and that the club's future is not in doubt, they could definitely do with greater numbers through the turnstiles. It is £16 for adults, £13 for concessions and absolutely free for children. If you haven't already, give it a try.
I have no interest in in any motor sport I know nothing about cars apart from putting the key into the ignition. I agree with you get down and support your local speedway team if that is what you enjoy You can't beat watching live sport not the same as on tv. Getting my season card today plus tickets for those 2 friendlies that is what I like to do.
