Don't forget my selections for Wimbledon. Been watching it for at least 50 years. My fav' men's player Jimmy Connors he had that will to win. Remember him after Borg beat him in the semi's one year, was interviewed. He wasn't a good loser. He said I'm gonna chase that son of a ***** till I beat him. That's what I want from my sports hero's no tears, revenge that's what's required. Women's so many from Goolagong to Serena.

It will be an outstanding call if one of your two win Gwru. I would be very surprised if Thiem won as he has had 22 goes at winning a grand slam and failed. In his five attempts at Wimbledon he has lost twice in first round, twice in second round and once in fourth round. He is also 25 yrs old. Zeverev is young at 22 and although he has failed in 16 grand slams he is an improver. My favourite tennis player has to be Federer, a supreme player. Got a chance this year but do believe father time is catching up with him. I like Nadal but not on grass. Djokovic has to have a favourites chance but again he is getting older. If i was to throw a few pound at it i would pick Tsitsipas. He is an improver who beat Federer in Australia. I do think though his time might be a couple of years off.
Got it right with Judd Trump. Think Wimbledon is more a young man's game. 2 I've selected either two of the better younger players around. Federer bores me to tears. Too nice. Give me Jimbo anytime. You don't have to win something a record no. of years to have that must watch quality. Alex Higgins only won the world snooker championship once at the crucible but will never be forgotten. Not by anyone who witnessed his charisma.
Cannot agree with that Gwru. Federer is one of the sweetest hitters of a tennis ball there has ever been. Connors was one dimensional. Base line hitter. The real serve volley players were Laver and McEnroe. As for Higgins, i once saw him in an exhibition at Dial House club. He was late and rude and in all honesty he was ordinary that night getting beat by a local player and scrambling to beat the other two. No peoples champion in my opinion just an obnoxious so and so. He had no time for ordinary people but loved the bottle.
I see things different. I never watch Federer, never done nothing for me. Never really liked Borg or McEnroe. Connors was a fighter. Just reading what he said if you beat me you had to be at your best. If I won I won if I lost I lost, well, I didn't take it so well. We all know Higgins off the table you wouldn't want to know him but on the table he enhanced the game so much. Opened the door up for the likes of White, O'Sullivan & Trump. With Higgins the 4 most gifted players to have graced the green baize. If the game had been left to Davies & Henry it would have been a sadder game.

Indeed you do have a gift gru. How did your top tip Zverev get on in his first match?
PS, well done in managing a post without a double negative in it.
I did say Tsitsipas needed a couple of years to reach peak, but i expected him to go further. Still got the old brigade to beat. No way Thiem will be winning.
Aye yo are worse than me at Tennis and i know nothing. However, an absolute privilege to watch Federer. If you cannot appreciate possibly the best ever then there is something wrong with your eyes lol
Won't watch any of the men's singles rest of Wimbledon. Federer, Rafa & Djokovic + Andy Murray are about as exciting as watching Forde & Potter. Nothing there for me.
Toys and dummy out of the pram again
Two outstanding selections. One of these two got to have a chance. Both best odds Zverev 28-1. Thiem 33-1 fill your boots! Split your bets back both.
Tennis it's like golf. In fact like most sports now plenty of money about for not being winners especially of the major events. Young players getting rich too soon happy with their lot. Wimbledon tennis men's same players been winning it for years. Needs a new face winning the title.
Totally agree about needing a new face. However, Federer,Djokovic and Nadal have been and still are exceptional players. It needed a very special talent to knock those off their thrones and to Murray's credit he has won a few slams at a time when tennis was dominated by three of the best of all time. Your hero Connors would have run about chasing shadows against those three and certainly hadn't got the game to beat them. A tryer yes but exceptional talent no.
Jimbo was worth two of any of them. Said it's not about winning the title the most times. Connors was a fighter. Loved watching him. Snooker I won't remember Davis & Henry multiple world champions with any affection. But Higgins win at the crucible & Trump this year I will.
