Only tennis I watch is that & Wimbledon. Just watched Barty Aussie win the womens title. Workmenlike but to win the French title is no mean feat, not many easy service points there. Chris Evert looked unbelievable at 64 presenting the trophies. Mens final tomorrow is Nadal v Thiem. Be hard to dislodge Nadal but looking at Wimbledon feel Thiem will have a better chance. Zverev another who'll be suited more by the grass courts. Mens tennis needs some new faces, been too long now with the same players winning all the grand slams.

Barty seems to be quite a refreshing and engaging character. At least she isn't one of the fifty or so blonde-haired, pony-tailed, robotic players that the former eastern bloc countries seem to churn out.
I agree with you gwru that the men's game needs a good shake up. The tennis pundits seem to think that the world always wants to see any two of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic in the final of the grand slams but it has all been done dozens of time before. To be fair to the three of them, plenty of up and coming young players have come along and threatened to disturb the status quo and been seen off. Perhaps the problem is that players can make an absolute fortune and have a playboy lifestyle by being top ten ranked players, and maybe they don't have that drive and hunger to give the extra 5% that the big three have always had.
Wimbledon is probably going to be as wide-open this year as it has been for a long time. My dark horse to do well in the men's competition is the young Canadian Denis Shapovalov. He is a tall left hander with a big serve, and has had success before in Junior Wimbledon. In the women's game, Jo Konta has the game to win on grass. She threw her French Open semi-final away by choking on a handful of big points. If she can sort her head out she could do it.
smiler: Jo Konta I've always said she looks mechanical, can't change her game. Can't see her winning Wimbledon, got to think quicker there. Agree Barty is a refreshing change. My next tip coming up now men's winner Wimbledon do both still make a profit if you put it on before it starts. Thiem & Zverev either one to win. Lv French open & Wimbledon. Just checked betting for the men's singles Wimbledon. You can get 40-1 Thiem, he might be better on slower courts but looks one of the better younger players. Zverev 14-1 only 22 but looks to me to have the game for Wimbledon.

I never gamble gwru so the odds don't really matter to me, but it would certainly be good to see some new names and faces challenging more regularly. Zverev certainly has a game that should be suited to the grass courts.
